Born and raised in the Boston area Marcus began his saxophone studies at age 11 and pursued music seriously after winning performance awards with the IAJE Massachusetts high school competitions, district and state. At the University of Miami (FL) Marcus held the Constance Weldon Scholarship where he expanded his studies into clarinet, flute, and bass clarinet. While at UMiami he had the opportunity to share the stage with Kevin Mahogany, Alex Norris and Lisanne Lyons, and studied saxophone with Gary Keller (Frank Sinatra) Mike Brignola (Woody Herman) Tyler Kuebler (Airmen of Note) and Troy Roberts (James Morrison).
After graduating from UMiami with a Bachelor of Music Degree in jazz saxophone performance Marcus worked with Carnival Cruise Lines playing production shows. He then moved to Philadelphia in the fall of 2007. Since moving to the Philadelphia area Marcus has freelanced with many groups bringing him the chance to play events at locations such as World Cafe Live, The Note, The River Street Jazz Cafe, The National Constitution Center, Avelthorpe Manor, and the Philadelphia Clef Club where he had the opportunity to play with Philadelphia legend Bootsie Barnes. His contemporary approach informed by history has helped him build a strong base of musical colleagues in the Philadelphia area.
