'One of the best mandolinists I have ever heard' - The Stage; ................. 'A fine musician and an assured Performer' Event South West ; .................. 'A musician at the top of his class...as a mandolin player you might be listening to every note thinking "How does he do that?" Don't. Pour yourself a whisky, put your feet up and just absorb Marc's relaxing rhythms. Recommended." Mandolinking.org. - review of 'Bluemando' cd _____________________________________________________________ Thanks for visiting my myspace - I hope you like what you hear. I'm a mandolin player (and occasional guitarist) playing a mix of blues, jazz, folk, bluegrass, country, rock and anything else that can be tackled with a mandolin! I've gigged all over the place including river boats on the Thames, cross channel ferries, bluegrass festivals (Edale and Didmarton), Ostend nightclubs and kids birthday parties! I've had the pleasure of playing with some great musicians including Simon Mayor, John Renbourn, Peter Rowan, John Etheridge, the late Jo Anne Kelly, Paul Downes, Jim Crawford, amongst many others. I've supported and shared the stage with Paul Jones and Dave Kelly (of 'The Blues Band'), Hank Wangford, Ralph McTell, Wizz Jones, Davey Graham, Edward II and the Red Hot Polkas, Show of Hands, and taught mandolin workshops at Simon Mayor's Mandolin Day. I've contributed to three cd complilations of mandolin music released in the USA and available through Mandolin Cafe/Comando as well as releasing a solo cd 'Bluemando' in 2003 and a cd 'Hardcorn' with the Bluegrass Flyers in 2006 - both available through itunes and Amazon under the old Belmando Records label. A big hello goes to the great players I've been playing with recently including the Bluegrass Flyers (guitarist Russell Frampton, bassist Steve Ewart, and banjo wrangler Dr. Dave Hilton), and guitarist/singer Steve Walker. I have recently been working with James Kirk (double bass) and Robin Brown (resonator and 11 string guitars) as The Kirkwood Brown Trio and had the pleasure of recent gigs with Blues maestro Jim Crawford. See much more at: https://www.youtube.com/user/marcowoodward?feature=mhee Any eagle eyed mandolin fans (who are at home in the mornings!) may also have spotted me presenting the BBC1 programme 'Homes Under The Hammer' for a number of shows - no mandolin content I'm afraid - shame really: could have spiced up the old day-time tv formula a bit! I just needed to interview someone selling an old italian restaurant and I'd have had the perfect excuse!

Ok, hmmm where to start? Lets start with David Grisman (great beard), Chris Thile (great technique), Simon Mayor (great all roundness), Alison Stephens - (sadly missed), Sam Bush (great funkiness), John Reischman (great Loarness), Richard Walz (great veganess) and lots more mando players beside. Then perhaps Ry Cooder, Django Reinhardt, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Joe Pass, Peter Rowan, Alison Krauss (and Adam Steffey -wonderful mandolinist missing from above list), Jerry Douglas, Stephane Grappelli, George Benson, Newgrass Revival, Bob Marley, David Bowie, BB King, Yank Rachell, Robert Johnson, Steely Dan, Richard Thompson, Jeff Beck, Antonio Vivaldi, LVBeethoven, America (the country not the group), Italy (cars, food, mandolins, little hilltop towns, sunglasses etc). Thats the present basic list, some of it is subject to change at a whim! .. .. .. ..

For anyone who hasn't come across me before, I've been a mandolin player for a long time playing a mix of blues, jazz, folk, bluegrass, rock, whatever! I've gigged all over the place including river boats on the Thames, cross channel ferries, bluegrass and folk festivals, posh hotels, seedy bars and European nightclubs! I've had the pleasure of playing with some great musicians including Simon Mayor, John Renbourn, Peter Rowan, John Etheridge, John James, the late Jo Anne Kelly, Paul Downes, amongst many others. I'm currently playing and recording with guitarist/singer Steve Walker as Woodward & Walker (see our upcoming www.songsfromtheshed.com session!) and working as part of the Kirkwood Brown Trio - see www.myspace.com/kirkwoodbrowntrio - new recordings and gigs coming soon - look for us also on Facebook! Please also have a look at my musical buddy Steve Walker's page: www.facebook.com/stevewalkermusic --------------------- Any eagle eyed mandolin fans (who are at home in the mornings!) may also have spotted me presenting the BBC1 programme 'Homes Under The Hammer' for a number of shows - no mandolin content I'm afraid!
