THE LATEST NEWS, MAY 14TH, 2009:
I did some guest vocals on the cd: "Rising from the Bushes" with the Alex Dixon Band. Check out this link: http://www.myspace.com/dixonlandingmusic2
The two songs I'm featured on: "Paint You A Picture" and "Fantasy" both written by Alex Dixon. Alex is the grandson of the late great blues artist, writer and musician, Willie Dixon who wrote blues classics such as "Whole Lotta Love" and "You Shook Me" recorded by Led Zeppelin back in the day.....A real legend! Other notables on the cd: My favorite drummer, James Gadson [Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers], Bass: Gerald Johnson [Steve Miller Band, Dave Mason], David Dills on vocals, great drummer, Alvino Bennett [Dave Mason] and on guitar and production the great Alan Mirikitani "BB Chung King". Marcy Levy aka, Marcella Detroit: My biggest claim to fame is singing with Eric Clapton for many years, touring, recording and co-writing one of his biggest hits: "Lay Down Sally", and also, "The Core" on his "Slowhand" lp. I was also in a very successful '90's group called "Shakespear's Sister". I was vocally featured on and cowrote our biggest hit, "Stay" that went to number one for 8 weeks in the UK along with Siobhan Fahey, previously with Bananarama and Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics. Since the split of SS in 1993, I've gone on to do several solo cd's under the name "Marcella Detroit", a name I adopted while in Shakespear's Sister and also appeared on Elton John's "Duets for One" cd, doing the Motown classic, "Ain't Nothin' Like the Real Thing". Check me out @www.marcelladetroit.com. My top 40 UK hit called, "I Believe" from my "Jewel" cd, was recorded by a German artist last year named Joana Zimmer climbing to number 2 in the German national charts. My roots: the blues and soul. I've just finished a blues cd called "The Upside of Bein' Down"... now officially released! buy it at: www.cdbaby.com/marcylevyband. My blues site: www.marcylevyband.com. I'm also working on a more contemporary soul/rock cd which will be born in the near future.
