What do you do when you've been a singer-songwriter for almost twenty years, with twenty number one singles, four Grammy Nominations, four Dove Awards, seven Songwriter of the Year awards, countless tours around the world and two books to your credit? You look for new ways to use your resources. At least that is what Margaret Becker has done.
"I have been so fortunate to have years working at my craft. I've had great support from the people around me, and it was with that support that I looked outside of my normal field and began seeking other dreams, other ways to be responsible with what I've received."
The Other Dreams have fared well. From her first number one single as a producer on another artist, Kelly Minter, This Is My Offering, to the successful launch of her own publishing company (Modernm –with placements on EMI, Provident, and Word), Becker has shown that chasing dreams can last a lifetime. And that is just one of the themes she has been highlighting in her keynote speaking engagements and in her third book set for release Fall 2005, Braving the Elements.
"I love speaking," Becker shares, "It's something people have requested of me over the years, but time and touring didn't always permit it. Now, that I've carved out the time, it has been a developing area that has met with incredible response." (Click here for a few comments from participants)
And music?
"Ahh, I can never leave that!" Margaret says with a smile. "I'm just doing some of the thematic projects I haven't had the time to do before, like this new Psalms based project, Faithfully Yours. (Click here for more info on Faithfully Yours) "It is directly written for the church. A worship pastor named David M. Edwards, and myself, wrote the bulk of the songs. Taken directly from the new Broadman/Holman translation of the Bible, it was a fulfillment of yet another dream – to write on the Psalms."
And that is not the only music she is writing. In the midst of working on an ambient record that will follow the themes in her upcoming book, Becker adds, "I'm the type of person that doesn't want to look back and wonder 'what if?' I've been blessed, and I want to make sure that I am investing those blessings where others can enjoy them."
