Friday is finally here and what better way to start the weekend than a friday night in the basement @ Fat Cat Cafe Bar with some friendly faces, Cool tunes and some wicked Live Bands!! This is the first Octopus of 2009 and we have an absolute cracker in store!! Resident D.J's Phill Bettany and Leon Jones are joined by Tamworth's finest Iain Wilkins and Pete Whitehouse spinning the ultimate in Underground Sixties and Early Seventies 45's from Mod Freakbeat and retro pop to Late sixties Psychedelia and Progressive Rock. If its old favourites by the Rolling Stones or The Beatles or completely un heard of Euro pop By Howard Carpendale or Catterina Caselli these guys have it all to get you up dancing and having a good time. Live Music comes from in my opinion the best current Psychedelic rock outfit THE VELVET TEXAS CANNONBALLwho take their inspiration from legendary bands such as The Doors and Early Deep Purple (hush). When they played The Octopus in August last year, The Basement filled up in an Instant with regular punters from upstairs wondering what on earth was going on due to their amazing live show which consists of Loud Hammond Organ and Hendrix-esque guitar work! If you thought Kula Shaker re-created a cracking 60's sound in the 90's then you will be absolutely blown away by these 5 guys!! Support comes from Stoke's very own Electric Blues Hero's THE BLACK APPLES with their fusion of Retro Blues and Indie Pop which gets you up on your feet and dancing in a flash. I dont know many bands at present that have that effect on people! with crowd favourites like 'Hypnotize' and '1,2' to their cleverly selected covers of old robert johnson songs and Peter Green's fleetwood Mac this 3 piece have what it takes to burst onto the mainstream and show a few people a thing or two of how it should be done!! The Night kicks off at 9pm through til 1am and Entry is Free!! So if your at a loose end
