Margot's latest reviews!------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Canadian jazz diva Margot Roi approaches the topic of love via jazz and pop standards that accentuate her graceful and irrefutably, optimistic mode of delivery. And she garners the very best out of the several musicians appearing on this amiable studio date, augmented by a get-up-and-go vibe that features lush phrasings amid brisk swing vamps and more.
The vocalist possesses an authoritative delivery that is counterbalanced with sincerity and her emotively generated lyricism. Here, Roi sparkles through jazz waltzes and sultry late-night blues vamps, where the instrumentalists are quite diligent when it comes to providing the requisite contrasts. Nonetheless, the artists’ thriving momentum serves as an accelerator during many of these standards.
On “All Or Nothing At All,” Roi casts a dream-laden edge atop an oscillating swing. In addition, she perpetuates a democratic mindset as the alternating personnel are afforded room to breathe and expand while often counterbalancing the leader’s spirited vocalizations. No doubt, Roi is one who has a realistic shot at becoming a household name among the horde of up and coming female jazz vocalists. She injects panache, pep and a noticeable mark of distinction into the roads previously traversed. "– Glenn Astarita Ejazz News

Warmly delicious full bodied vocals with a hint of smokiness that will envelop and surprise you!
Margot arranges and performs straight-ahead jazz that cross-pollinates traditional and contemporary standards for a textured fresh sound.
..
Raised in the small town of Dundas Ontario, Canada, Margot began performing in school musicals, and on local Cable TV telethons. She has performed in a all female Mariachi band in Mexico and many talent contests have been won.
Throughout her childhood Margot shared in her family's diverse musical experiences: opera, folk, jazz and musical theatre. Aesthetically, this has led Margot to an inclusionist style with an unfettered exuberant approach.
-When I perform vocally, I want the audience to experience a little fun. I choose lyrics that intensify the emotive colourations of my interpretive style, to further inhabit the textured atmosphere laid down by other musicians.-
Margot has studied music at the University of Windsor, vocals with the Canadian Academy of Vocal Music, with Bob Mover and with Mitch Seekins. Margot has studied piano, and learned the ukulele/autoharp/guitar/piano at her father's knee, and of course played the trombone in the school band.

Cool Baby, Black Coffee, Things We Said Today and All Or Nothing are four tunes that made my new day a good day. What a cool day begins, baby with this real cool trombone sound - i love the trombone. Your voice is running perfectly through that crazy melody. I'm sitting in a train full of people - tempo is coming down - a stop - people going out and more are coming in - and your voice in my ear - you're feeling lonely - black coffee - oh yes, that would be great - the train drives faster and faster again - what a great intermezzo - i wish i would enter a bar with that amazing piano&trumpet and your presence - i guess i wouldn't leave anymore... Things We Said introes with so much colors - i guess the music build up the painting of your boy - the one you want to stay - and this tunes truly keeps me inside all these colors of sounds. To finish my four hit tunes from the seven tunes i've listened to this morning in the train - it's all or nothing at all. This tunes drives as fast as this train does. And it's no hasard that right in this moment the sun shines into my eyes. With the latin piano this tune quickly brings me to the sunny side of life.
All in all - this is so great music with such a beautiful voice and great musicians. I coulnd't say if this is music out of the 50's, 60's or later - it's just timeless. It is Jazz - that kind of Jazz I love. Is it something new? Does it matter? I love these tunes already as much as I knew them since a long time. Pearls in the big ocean of music. It's a shame to leave them alone. May many people find these pearls - i'm very lucky having found them. thank you Margot Roi - I've got it you're King.
thank you so much for letting me downloading your tunes. i will listen to them tomorrow morning... i'll be back soon. greetings from switzerland claude
