Margret Avery has a very different style, emphasizing long notes, contributing five songs (three of which were co-written with her keyboardist Daryl Kojak) and often interpreting her repertoire at thoughtful ballad tempos. While she performs a rambunctious “Wild Women Don’t Get The Blues” and revives “Autumn Leaves” and “The Island,” most of the material heard on A Place That’s Make Believe is quite fresh and full of insightful lyrics.
