Writing. Observing the world and its people. The way those people think. The reasons people think they think what they think. The sound of wind rushing through trees. The smell of coffee in the morning. The effect of rushing wind through trees and coffee in the morning on the way people think. And writing.
Music
I listen to a variety, although being a seventies' girl, I have a strong preference for the classic rock of that decade.
Movies
GWTW, The Big Chill, The Lion King, My Best Friend's Wedding, Singin' in the Rain, Finding Forrester, The Spitfire Grill, V for Vendetta, In and Out, Mr. Holland's Opus, Crash, Second Hand Lions, Capote, and Ratatouille.
Television
"Television is very educational. Every time somebody turns one on, I go into the library and read a good book."
~Groucho Marx
Books
My favorite book is the dictionary. Otherwise, I tend to choose authors rather than titles, although I peruse the recent releases for "new favorites" all the time. I have always said if I could write like anyone, I would choose Pat Conroy. The man has a command of the craft I strive for. First, let me give a shout to MySpace friends I have read and enjoyed: Adrienne Brodeur, Julia Holden, Laura Benedict, M. Apostolina, Pinckney Benedict, Judy Merrill Larsen, Melanie Lynne Hauser, Ronlyn Dominguez, Jen Lancaster, Jennifer Vandever, Emily Giffin, Zoe Rice, J.A. Konrath, Sarah Mlynowski, Jenny Gardiner, and Cora Zane. Many others of you are in the TBR stack! Among a multitude of other favorites are: TKAM, GWTW, Shakespeare, Steinbeck, Hemingway, Herman Wouk, Anne Rivers Siddons, Michael Chabon, Jennifer Crusie, Michael Malone, Dorothea Benton Frank, John Irving, Jennifer Weiner, Richard Adams, Lorna Landvik, Mary Kay Andrews... lots of styles, lots of genres. It's all about story. What I choose at any given moment depends on my mood-- which in these perimenopausal days is likely to change at any given moment, dammit! Is that all right with you? You got a problem with that???
Heroes
People who go a step above and beyond what is required or expected.
About me: I am stubbornly blonde. And by that I mean my hair color, so don't get any highfalutin' ideas about my I.Q. because you would be oh, so very wrong. I decided long ago that when I turned forty I would become the redhead I was as a baby... No can do. Two weeks later I'm turning blonde again. But I'm tenacious; I will persevere.
I teach language arts, and much as I have always loved my job, and much as my kids love the ever-changing shades of my hair, I have discovered that while I enjoy doing my part to make kids love books and KEEPING AMERICA LITERATE, my true passion lies in creating literature myself.

Who I'd like to meet: Like-minded people-- writers who teach, teachers who write, readers who think, thinkers who read... People who aren't afraid to share their comments, opinions and advice... People who can make me laugh.
I'm looking for friends.
It's a term you hear bandied about a lot on this website, and I've been told more than once in my life that my definition of the word is unrealistic... But I would like to think of myself as more than a number in a "friend tally," and if you're on the list here, you'll be more than a number to me.
I would also love to meet an agent interested in representing my first novel, NO MATTER WHAT.
I've been hibernating too long. It's snowing here again today, so I can't get outside. It's great weather for writing.Thought I'd take a break and drop by to see what is happening in your world.
As you may or may not know, I turned twenty-five the other day. Instead of gifts this year, I'm asking everyone to join my Email List on www. jjhebert. net. Unconventional, my newest novel, will be published by Mindstir Media later this year, and joining the Email List will ensure that you receive updates regarding my book release, contests, giveaways, and more.
Thanks Margy!!!! Whoa... cool looking avatar you have there.
I'm looking forward to a good year despite all the depressing news about the economy. I am not the sum total of an economy or the value of the almighty dollar... I'm a MUNGA!!!! hear me roar?
get out! you did NOT get to hear Dr. MLK talk. well, now i'm totally jealous. which is simply ridiculous because it was still a few years before i'd be here. i think i just like having things to be jealous about.
also, i wrote just one of my eyes out. but i got a semi-good story started that after several rough drafts could be less confusing, and so yes. that's a start.
now, i'm going to go over to facebook and leave you a cryptic comment that you'll only understand if you read this comment first. and also i'll leave you my address. but mostly: a cryptic comment.
It's because when one attempts to post, Tom declares it posted, even when it disappears into the ether...and I cant get a picture on a blog for anything...GRRR!
I'll be joining you for that bubbly - virtually anyway. This is so huge. I don't think it's really sunk in yet. Here's to the next 8 (?) years! We'll have to promise to discuss at the end of the term - hopefully about a lot of dreams come true!
