"If one man cannot own another in slavery, and a man can no longer own a woman in marriage, how come a woman can own a child in gestation? What is so civilised about killing the unborn for the convenience of the individual or the state?"

About me: Originally from Ireland, the Faroe Islands have been my home since 1990. I love the sea and the rugged beauty of these 18 beautiful islands lying in the middle of the North Atlantic.
I am a former member of Amnesty International, a vegetarian and a pro-life activist on several fronts. I became a vegetarian in July 2002 as a result of an encounter with a searching atheist who is also a vegetarian. His questioning helped me see the link between the developement of unborn children and the intelligence and capacity of animals to feel pain. I decided I could not continue to speak out against torture, the death penalty and abortion, yet remain indifferent to the suffering of animals in so many avoidable circumstances, creatures also gifted with the breath of life. Neither could I continue eating meat knowing that the grain being used to feed animals in order to produce meat for human beings could go directly towards feeding many desperately poor and hungry people - to their advantage and with far less damaging consequences for our health, animal welfare and the environment. I ceased to be a member of Amnesty International in 2005 (after years of active membership), having written many letters seeking straight answers to questions regarding their developing policy on "reproductive rights", specifically abortion. My suspicions were proved correct in June 2007, and later in August 2007 when AI decided to support abortion. I cannot understand how an organization founded by a Catholic to defend the defenseless and the voiceless - especially their right to life and security of person - can now support access to and decriminalization of abortion: an inherently violent act against the unborn, women and men. I have a special place in my heart for the many men and women suffering silently from the unspoken pain of abortion and keep you in my prayer. In fact, I pray for all my friends in my space and for all those who drop by to view my profile :) I would like my space to be a place of dialogue. I hope it will be a source of blessing ...

EARTHLINGS PROLOGUE
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage." When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet: 'And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel.'" Then Herod called the magi secretly and ascertained from them the time of the star's appearance. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage." After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way.
Dear friend, Let us all fix our eyes on Jesus & surrender our lives to the mighty hand of God to direct & guide our way into the new year. May you be blessed beyond your expectations this coming new year! God bless you!
Heh, thanks :) I love language, and where these are obscure (to an American such as I :P), I'm sure that adds to their appeal for me. Next on the list would be Faeroese and Gaeilge :D
Thank you for all the wonderful comments and your friendship throughout this past year. My hope for you in 2009 is that your life will be blessed with much happiness and love.
Thank you for your comments and wishes, only one thing - I don't teach Norwegian and Polish, haha! I only wish I knew them that well. It's just that my favorite bands are Norwegian and Polish, and I happen to love both cultures. You see, it also suits me that although I'm a Heathen, my basic values still are shared with conservative Catholicism, so...plus I just feel they are the coolest sounding languages there are :D
And I'm fourth generation American, unfortunately; but mostly Irish :D
