Bio:

Duo Maria Fernández Álvarez (voice) & Norman Peplow (piano) cherish their fascination for all music which originates from passion; their narrative songs however are a tribute to the music from the South American and Spanish tradition in particular. Flavours from the Argentine (Neo)Tango, the Cuban complejos and the less known South American Folk Music form the roots, with influences from Brazil and Spanish Copla. This rich crucible of rhythms, colours and languages, but chiefly tales, is enriched by the blend with Jazz, the style that both musicians have a distinct preference for because of the endless amount of opportunities to interact and improvise. Though the past few years they have been invited to play at Jazz & Tango Festivals and Jazz clubs throughout Germany, Holland, Belgium, Romania, Turkey and Spain. Recently they won the 1st prize at the Dutch 'ArtEZ Holland Casino Jazz Competition' (May 2008), the 2nd prize at the 'International Tango Music Competition Del Ocho' (April 2009), and the 1st prize at the 'Prix du Port' music competition for excellent talent (April 2009).
