Influences
Influenced by a full spectrum of artists from Joni Mitchell to Black Sabbath and modern bands/artists like Audioslave, Tool, and Tori Amos.
Maria's been singing and performing since she was old enough to make a noise and move her feet. She grew up in Little Rock, AR, then moved to New York City at age 17. She went to New York University, Tisch School of Arts to study musical theater and film acting which culminated with a degree in Fine Arts. Although maria always enjoyed dancing and acting, the music was really what called to her. She realized that all along what had been missing was writing music and expressing songs in her own voice and with her perspective on the world. Musical theater and acting had not been able to fulfill that need. Almost overnight, Maria found herself invited to a weekly reggae jam hosted at a private loft in Tribeca which offered numerous musical connections. It was there she met Linley, a bass player, who invited her to join him and guitar player,Mike to form a band. They wrote and recorded many songs together for over a year. However, the group disbanded and Maria decided to venture off on her own and to take a break from city life and moved back to Little Rock. In LR for over 2 years now, she has recorded with several local artists/bands, played solo gigs around town, and independently recorded an EP to be released this Fall. Influenced by a full spectrum of artists from Joni Mitchell to Black Sabbath and modern bands/artists like Audioslave, Tool, and Tori Amos, she intends to continue exploring the worlds of the seen and unseen through her voice and musical expression.
