Maria Montell has taken the journey from celebrated pop diva to mature pop jazz and bossa singer and is now returning to the starting point. With the single ”Bang Bang Boogie”, a new hit has been born, and it is one of those songs that you simply cannot get out of your head. A song that dares to be pure pop and with a production that charmingly gets away with underplaying. Bang Bang Boogie, which has its radio release on the 7th September, has been written by Maria Montell and Morten Remar, and together with the producer Thomas Troelsen, the result of the co-operation is unmistakable.
Bang Bang Boogie is the intro song of the coming Danish-Australian action comedy ”At World’s End”, which premieres in the movie theatres on the 9th of October. ”At World’s End” has been written by Anders Thomas Jensen and directed by Tomas Villum Jensen. The movie includes actors like Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Nikolaj Coster Waldau, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Nicolas Bro, Ulf Pilgaard, Birthe Neumann, Søren Pilmark and Peter Schrøder.
The music video for ”Bang Bang Boogie” has been shot in Cannes and has also been directed by Tomas Villum Jensen. Nikolaj Lie Kaas can be seen in a supporting role in this fabulous video, which is reminiscent of a James Bond movie from the 60s.
Maria Montell has been playing music all her life. She started with an organ; after that, singing was the main attraction. But once she got a guitar and sat down with three-four chords and made the album ”Jeg er her for dig” from 1994, she achieved the actual breakthrough as a pop singer.
Who can forget the catchy tune ”Sådan går det hver gang”? The 1996 release ”And So The Story Goes” included the big hit ”And So The Story Goes (Di Da Di)” - Montell toured in no less than 20 countries with this song. And from the 1999 release ”Se”, the pop bossa ”Kys mig op til himlen” was the song that everyone was singing. Maria Montell has put her mark on the Danish pop scene in the last 15 years with releases in Danish as well as English. Furthermore, Maria has published two books: ”Drengen, der havde alt” and ”Prinsesser spiller ikke fodbold”, and she is the mother of two children.
