| About Mariann |
Mariann was born in Easton Pennsylvania on April 6th 1960. She started singing at a very young age because her mother was a singer also and had won talent contests as a young girl. In 5th grade Mariann was chosen to sing solo in Washington Township Elementary School in Bangor PA in the school musicals. She joined Chorus in Bangor Jr. High and Sr. High School. She was chosen for a few solos through out those years. When she graduated High School she really wanted to continue singing and followed local bands around. Charlie Lippincott from Magnum told her to keep an eye on the newspaper for bands who were looking for a vocalist.
Shortly after, She auditioned for a Lehigh Valley band that was just forming with Scott Sandt on Guitar, John Dudley on Bass and Kevin McGee on Drums.
Scott told Mariann they would be calling on Friday evening to let her know what the decision would be since there were about 4 other girls that tried out. For fear of not getting a phone call that Friday, Mariann did not stay home by the phone. At about 7:00 on Saturday morning the phone rang and it was Scott. He said "It was a unanimous decision that they wanted her in the band." Out of curiousity, Mariann asked Scott if he called the night before. He said, "I'm sorry, No I didn't I got busy." She was so glad she did not sit by the phone like she really wanted to.
The band decided to call themselves Pheonix and later chose to take on a Rhythm Guitar player named Dave Soborski, Dave also sang and played a little keyboards.
The band Phoenix played around the Allentown Bethlehem and Easton area with some gigs also in the New Jersey area. They frequented places such as, The Red Rooster in NJ, The Light House in Bethlehem to name a few and also some Proms and Private parties.
When Mariann left Pheonix she went to visit friends in Arizona for an extended stay and came back and auditioned for an all girl group that Media Five Entertainment was putting together. Over 50 girls tried out for that band. Mariann did not get the position for that band. But, Media Five called her anyway and told her they were looking for a more gruff kind of girl to sing for the all girl group and that her voice was more like what the band called Round Trip was looking for. Johnny Dee from Media Five sent her to an audtion in Allentown with the band Round Trip which consisted of Mario Grella on Guitar, Chris Younger on Rhythm Guitar, Steve Soldaditz on Bass, Keith Shiver on Drums and Tom Epler on Male Vocals. The band liked Mariann and they asked her to start playing with them at a gig they were playing the next night at The Red Rooster. They continued to play the Lehigh Valley Area.
When Mariann was 25 she joined the band called Eager Beaver and played the same areas with Bill and Bambi Jones.
At the age of 36 after Mariann had her 3 boys she decided to get back into the music business and worked for a short time with the band called 2nd Nature. After 2nd Nature broke up and while looking in the paper for ads for a computer she excitedly noticed a band looking for a lead singer to sing Yes, Kansas, Styx, Rush and Starship. She auditioned and joined the Progressive Rock band called "Universal Mind". The band only lasted a few months, because half of the guys in the band wanted to start playing grunge music. But, Those months playing with Universal Mind were very enjoyable for her because none of the other bands she had been in before were into progressive rock. It was finally her chance to sing all of those songs she had been singing to herself at home and in her car by Yes, Kansas, Styx, Rush and Starship.
Since then Mariann has played short term with bands such as the dance band "Mike Ninno and the Headliners" and the country band "Rapidfire". She also will sit in with area guitar players such as Chris Trey and others.
Mariann is versatile and is able to belt out your favorite faster rock and dance songs by artists such as Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Taylor Dayne, Renee Diggs from Starpoint, Pat Benatar, Heart, Journey, Starship, Yes, Kansas, Rush, Fleetwood Mac, The Pretenders, Christina Aguilera and Madonna. She can also recreate the sounds of Smooth Voices from the Past and Present Such as Sade, Ella Fitzgerald, Smokey Robinson, Billie Holiday, Linda Ronstadt, Alison Krauss, Karen Carpenter, Patsy Cline, Nora Jones, Eva Cassidy, and so much more including some older Big Band Classics everyone loves. She will bring style and sophistication to any event.
