About Marianne Baker

Hi. This is Marianne Baker. I'm an artist of mostly the musical type. Although I would consider myself to be first and foremost a citizen of the world, I'm basically Canadian (Toronto via Brussels via Ottawa via Sudbury via Kirkland Lake via Peterborough-- long story!!!-- and currently via LA via Vancouver via whatever in between).

I write music because I love it and I find it therapeutic and it can't be helped, so I might as well. As some of you are vaguely aware, I fled my country after splitting with my management in 2006, just after (not) releasing my second album (Twenty Minutes To Live), and moved to LA in hopes of putting this whole music thing behind me, getting married and pursuing a new life as a Californian housewife. Well... things didn't go exactly as planned (let's not get into it), but I had a really nice time enjoying the weather and having a good long think about things, under the rock where I hid myself for however long it was.

So I'm back in Canada now, in my favourite city-- beautiful sunny Toronto-- but it is certainly not intended as any insult to Americans that I abandoned them so quickly (and I didn't-- I'll be back!!); just the thought of living the life of an undocumented, illegal, underground alien going nowhere fast was a bit, um, daunting, to say the least. Even for me.

Moving right along... If you like my vibe, you can buy my records (I made two of them!) through iTunes worldwide. I recommend you do this as it saves us all precious time and money, plus the fossil fuel required to ship them to you, the trees to make the paper, the petroleum to make the cd's... well, I think you get where I'm going with this. I really love my environment and I'd like to preserve it for as long as possible. We can do the mail order thing if you prefer, but please be patient-- I'm really busy these days and so is Canada post!

Well I sincerely hope you enjoy the music-- I had a lot fun making it-- and I'm really looking forward to sharing some new material with y'all real soon.

It makes me laugh when people say my "new" hair colour suits me...of course it does - it's my hair! haha First time since I was 15 that I've had my hair not dyed. Growing it out is a bitch. Ok, this is enough talk about hair but while we're on the topic, blonde is def great on you. I'm going to hold out as long as possible, but when the day comes that a piece of grey hair should tangle itself in my head I'm going platinum blonde, then slowly as I become a granny I will transition into white and THEN, white with purple tint. Mmmm yummmmmmmmmmmy.
