.. Born in Japan and currently based in Boston (via the Bay Area), Marié Abe is a classically trained pianist-turned accordionist. Since the day she picked up her first shiny white accordion in 2004, Marié has been actively performing, recording, collaborating, and touring with a wide array of musicians, dancers, and performers from the world over. Groups she has performed with include Debo Band, Thorny Brocky, the Japonize Elephants, Ramon and Jessica, Tango no.9, Campo Santo Theater Company (San Francisco), Marzouk Mejiri, Gnut, Daniele Sepe (Italy), and Cicala Mvta, Ett, and Midori Hirano (Japan.) .. .. Marié enjoys exploring the intersection between improvisation and composition, while integrating her interest in folk musical styles around the Mediterranean. She is also a founder of the pan-Asian prog-folk group O, Pomelo (SF), and zany improv/Balkan groups Four Flea Circus (SF) and Chichûike (Osaka/Kyoto)... ..Her recent recording projects include: Debo Band (July 2012 on Subpop), Aaron Novik's Floating World (2012 Porto Franco Records), Ramon and Jessica (2012 Porto Franco Records), Japonize Elephants (upcoming), Thorny Brocky (upcoming), Ett "Mucha no Cha" (coup label, 2006), Ramon and Jessica "Handyman's Honeymoon" (2006), RF "Views of Distant Towns" (plop, 2006 - appearing in voice), momo "Open the Window" (2007) Marzouk Mejiri "Genina" (2008), Barbara De Dominicis "Anti-gone" (2008). .. -

She is currently working on getting a PhD degree in ethnomusicology at UC Berkeley.
