Marie-Claire
Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, alternative-folk-pop, and
neo-medieval experimentalist Marie-Claire Calvet, has spent the last three years evolving her own original voice and writing songs with a rich, evocative power that is complimented by an expressively powerful, haunting voice.
She plays a combination of keyboard and acoustic guitar based material, and has a degree of gigging experience behind her in a variety of different venues including the legendary 12 Bar Club of Tin Pan Alley, The Troubadour the Half Moon Putney and variety of music festivals.
In addition to holding a three-year residency as in-house pianist before and during her A-levels at the prestigious Leeds castle in Kent, Marie-Claire has gained regular work performing covers of Piaf, Brel, Aznavour and Barbara with an accordion player at respected venues as Le Pigalle Club and Le Meridien in Piccadilly circus.
She performs a set of original material and covers in her own unique style, and though she cites influences such as Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, Eva Cassidy, to name a few, she remains true to her own original style of songwriting and performance.
She has received recognition both from established and respected musicians and artists, as well as interest from industry professionals, reaching the semi-finals of the UK Songwriting contest recently in Sept 2009 with the track "Glorious Maiden" .
