Music, going to rock concerts/out to dinner/to the cinema, nature, animals, travel, reading, internet, drawing and painting, my lovely garden, good vegetarian food, some spiritual, alternative and paranormal stuff, Tai Chi.
Music
Mostly melodic rock/pop, but also some folk, country and alternative, I just like a lot of different stuff. My favourite band is URIAH HEEP from the UK, 'old' rockers who have been around for a long time, but who are still going very strong, very much alive and kickin'!!!
They have just released a fantastic new album, called Wake The Sleeper.
Check out these live versions of three new songs from this album: Overload, Tears of the World and Shadow, then you will see what I mean! Uriah Heep rock!
I also like discovering cool new music/artists, for which MySpace of course is a good source. There are some cool bands and artists on my friends list that you might like to check out.
Movies
Thrillers, action, drama, comedy. I like going to the cinema every now and then, the last few films I saw are Casino Royale, with Daniel Craig doing a nice job playing James Bond; Hot Fuzz, a British comedy about a tough top cop from London who gets transferred to a small town in the countryside where all kinds of bizarre accidents happen, pretty funny and hilarious; Wild Hogs, a funny road movie about four middle aged guys who go on a road trip on their motorbikes; Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, the conclusion (?) of the action-packed and sometimes very hilarious trilogy with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom; Elizabeth - The Golden Age, a historic movie about Queen Elizabeth I of England; National Treasure 2, with history, action and hidden treasure.
Television
Crime Scene Investigation, ER, Strong medicine, Grey's Anatomy, Medium, The Ghost Whisperer, McCloud's Daughters, Judging Amy, America's Next Top Model, Bones, NCIS, Midsomer Murders, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Ugly Betty, just to name a few shows that I like.
Books
Yes, absolutely, I couldn't live without something to read. Thrillers, novels, history, travel. Authors like for instance Edward Rutherfurd, Ellis Peters, Bill Bryson (very funny!), Ken Follett. In the past few years I've read Rutherford's London (only 1300 pages LOL), a cool mix of fiction and historical and archaeological facts; Labyrinth by Kate Mosse, a thriller set against a historical background; Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown; The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon; Never have your dog stuffed and other things I've learned by actor/writer/director Alan Alda (very witty); Who's Crazee Now by former Slade-frontman Noddy Holder; A walk in the woods by Bill Bryson (very funny); one of Michael Jecks' medieval murder mysteries (in Dutch translation); the unauthorised Duran Duran biography Notorious by Steve Malins; Born to be riled by Jeremy Clarkson; Around the world in 80 days, Pole to Pole, Sahara and Himalaya by Michael Palin; the latest Harry Potter book by J.K. Rowling; Sepulchre by Kate Mosse, a thriller with supernatural elements; The Forest by Edward Rutherfurd; World Without End by Ken Follet, the sequel to Pillars of the Earth; New Europe by Michael Palin; There was a river by Bruce Berger (essays on the American Southwest); The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton; Pompeii by Robert Harris; Lynyrd Skynyrd: Remembering the free birds of southern rock by Gene Odom; A small part of history by Peggy Elliot, about women on the Oregon trail in the 1840's; The house at Riverton by Kate Morton; With no one as witness by Elizabeth George, an Inspector Lynley mystery. Currently reading The torment of others by Val McDermid. And there are still some books on my 'to read' pile!
Heroes
No one in particular, although on second thought I think that people who do a lot of good work for animal welfare should be mentioned here.
Marije Knee operation went well, but unfortunately my front cross band is torn. I will have another operation in which they will replace my damaged cross band with a Posted 12 hours ago view more
About me: Hi there! I suppose I should tell you all a bit about myself here ;-) Well, my name is Marije, I'm in my thirties and I live in the north of Holland. I used to be quite shy and insecure, but fortunately that has improved a lot over the years. I'm a pretty sensitive, emotional, caring and compassionate person. Some people think I'm sweet, and usually I am gentle, but I can also have a bit of a temper and be a bit bitchy sometimes.
I do not like people who are shallow and superficial and only care about outside appearance and stuff like that, I prefer people who have some depth like myself. I am not impressed by fame, fortune or looks, for me it is character and personality that matter. I do my best to be open minded and not judge people so easily. I like having fun with friends, music, Uriah Heep gigs, nature, animals, travel, reading and gardening. I have a sweet and cuddly old cat and I work for a company that does archaeological research projects all over Holland. I play field hockey and go to the gym once a week for a workout and a Tai Chi Tao/Qi Gong class.
BTW for those of you who don't speak Dutch and are wondering about the pronunciation of my Dutch name, the closest thing in English would be 'Mariah'.
Who I'd like to meet: Old and new friends, I'm not interested in celebrities, people who don't really have anything to say about themselves or guys who are only interested in getting in touch with nice looking girls.
A little WARNING: I am being quite selective about what kind of messages I reply to and who I accept as a MySpace friend, so SERIOUS messages and friend requests ONLY please!!!
Great pics you put up of your trip to Croatia, Marije! Glad you had another wonderful trip. Sorry I've been 'missing in action' for awhile...life, etc. But do hope you and Jan are well, and enjoying the late September weather! Here it's been the only good weather month in the past 13 months!! But I'll take what I can get! Raising a toast to you - and hope you get out to hear some good concerts soon! Any planned? Chug-a-lug!
He is getting to be quite a clever little man, he recognises so much of what you say to him, if you ask him if he wants dinner he will smack his lips and crawl to the kitchen, ready to be lifted to his high chair. You can ask him to dance and he will kind of dance. He can point to his eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hair and head if asked to and he seems to know the colour purple. He will makes splashing actions for the word bath and so much more.
I hope that you will have a lovely holiday, it sounds really nice. Ifan has next week off work starting from the 20th ( his birthday) I think he also has some time off in August. We will probably be going to London around our anniversary ( which has come round fast! ) we have not made many plans, it's difficult with River. We might just go for days out. Hopefully my Mum can look after River one day so we can have a day off :-)
I hope we will get a chance to meet up sometime this year, it's been so long!
