Bio
..BIO:.... Marion Grace was conceived years ago by namesake lead singer and songwriter Ralph Marion Graceffa and the current members have been together since 2008. The name Marion Grace is anchored to a childhood memory of a woman met through pictures and stories only, but is a person they will all carry in remembrance through the spirit and Grace of the music... The band is a family of musicians with a core group of players that write and shape the material. The idea behind Marion Grace is to be real, be steady, be human… “we are who we are”. They have been quoted many times saying, “it’s an amazing feeling to share music with the world, whether it be in a small cafe in Portland, Maine or on a large New York City stage... Taking most of 2009 into 2010 to record their debut album, the band worked with Producer Adam Frederick and Engineer Mike Davidson at Zippah Studios in Boston and their sound progressed into soulful and honest folk rock... MG released their debut record “Lying Down Looking Up” in March of 2010 and celebrated with a sold-out performance at Portland’s esteemed venue, Port City Music Hall! Marion Grace’s “Lying Down Looking Up” is available on iTunes and at all Bull Moose Music stores(in Maine and NH) as well as on Bull Moose’s website. They were nominated earlier this year by The Portland Phoenix for Best New Act... You can hear Marion Grace on the following radio stations WCLZ (Portland), WCYY (Portland), WNYZ (New York City), WERU (Bangor), WBLM (Portland), WSCA (Portsmouth, NH) with more to come! ...... ..PRESS:.... ..“On March 20, Marion Grace is going to drop 2010’s first “wow” record to come from the Portland scene. “Lying Down Looking Up” features all kinds of spice and variety to add to the typical folk-rock arsenal, but has the antique musk of a haunted house throughout. The sound is big, sprawling sometimes, with organs, horns, spaghetti Western percussion, banjos and the kitchen sink in reserve. But whereas lesser writers might try to dilute a weak story with more sound, no element in this vast orchestra ever overpowers Ralph Marion’s brawny song arcs... At its strongest, Marion Grace reminds of one of the world’s best bands, the Southwestern desert folk Calexico. This is especially true on slow burner “The Flame,” where a patient arrangement keeps the players honest, allowing the song to gather its slow power and build to a brassy climax... Marion Grace delivers a team performance reminiscent of the Counting Crows on their seminal debut, “August and Everything After.” Portland can rejoice that such a force will grace her stages. If this is the beginning, how come it sounds like the band has been playing together for all time?”.. ..- Mike Olcott from ..THE PORTLAND PRESS HERALD........ “One local band that has made a major impact quick with their debut release is Marion Grace. “Lying Down Looking Up” is a solid record of intense sounds and warm songs. Frontman Ralph Graceffa has a unique voice that will soon enough become a local favorite… and the band has a passionate sound that will stand out on its own, and people will take notice.”.. ..- Mark Curdo from ..WCYY/PORTLAND DAILY SUN........ “As debut records go, it’s rare to find one as textured and fully realized as what Marion Grace have put together in the 10-song Lying Down Looking Up, an arty, smart, folk-rock affair that shows songwriting creativity with some genuinely great ideas... Fronted by Ralph Marion Graceffa, the band do seem to be as much his as the name implies. His vocals, which can be raspy and gravelly like Lou Reed or more reedy like the Violent Femmes’ Gordon Gano, burrow their way into your ear, with an emotional rawness that makes him impossible to disbelieve. He can push you around, make you feel, and he’s propped up and counterpointed by the backing vocals of Clarabelle Junken. The two have a real chemistry, which isn’t the same as just singing harmonies with one another.”.. ..- Sam Pfeifle from ..THE PORTLAND PHOENIX........ ....Become a Fan of Marion Grace on Facebook! www.facebook.com. www.mariongracemusic.com. -

Hey!i love you music

Got a chance to listen (and watch) you all on a posting on FB from Robin Ivy when you guys were on CYY. Really loved the tune, it was thoughtful, sublime and really pulled the listener in with the beautiful vocal harmonies. Hope to run into you guys in the Portland circles - if you get a chance, we would love it if you would take a listen to "Just Fine" on our page - it is a likeness to what you all do, and maybe Swell Season. Our songs are all a little different, which is what I gathered about your music, and I really enjoy that fact. Congrats on your success so far, I would say good luck, but it doesn't seem you all need it!! ~Kristin of MFO
