  • Bio

..The first thing you'll notice about this 6 ft redhead (okay maybe the 2nd) is her killer voice - sultry, sexy and supersonic it seems to develop more depth and soul with each passing year. Originally from Darwin, Marisa Quigley is best known as founding member and front woman of Victorian rhythm n blues band Chubby Rae & the Elevators. With the band she has performed at such festivals as East Coast Blues & Roots Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival and the Narooma Blues & Rockabilly Festival and was awarded Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2007 Australian Blues Music Awards. She has shared the stage with the likes of Ash Grunwald, Mia Dyson, Chris Wilson and Dallas Frasca and has sung on albums for blues & roots artists Brian Fraser and Dave Steele. She also sings with Kerri Simpson, Kelly Auty and Diana Wolfe in their fluid, guest filled line-up The Gospel Belles and performs a soul/blues/jazz set with world-renowned Hammond player Tim Neal. She is regarded one of Victoria's funniest female blues singers and yes... she is the cat's mother. After a wealth of experience with her band and various other line-ups, Marisa has now branched out on her own and is making a name for herself as an accomplished songwriter in her own right. Her debut self-titled release opened at No. 1 in the Blues & Roots Music: Australian Radio Charts and features a guest performance by Ash Grunwald. Her songs span the gamut from heartfelt to haunting to hilarious and are a testament to a life well lived and a road well travelled. Her vocal influences include Bonnie Raitt, Etta James and Susan Tedeschi and she cites Tom Waits as the single most inspirational and influential songwriter of all time. With an eclectic blend of blues/roots, country/folk, a nudge and a wink, a tickle and a poke, her act is soulful, powerful, fun and endearing.
