The Maritime Aquarium inspires people of all ages to appreciate Long Island Sound and protect it for future generations. A vibrant and entertaining learning environment, the Maritime Aquarium achieves this goal through living exhibits, marine science, and environmental education.
African Underwater Safari
Journey to Africa, be home by dinner. Now you can explore the aquatic wonders of Africa in your own backyard. When they think of an African safari, most people picture land-based animals: elephants, giraffes, hippos and such. Now the Aquarium offers an African "safari" from a new perspective: underwater. While you will not see elephants or giraffes, you can see catfish that have their noses. See electric catfish that stun their prey with a high voltage jolt, lungfish that breathe atmospheric air like you and me, boa constrictors that have heat-seeking noses, geckos that can cling to smooth surfaces with electrostatic toes and that have nothing to do with car insurance. Included with Aquarium admission. For just $5 more you can journey through the "Lost Temple" on a 3-D simulator ride. Enhance your experience even more with the new IMAX movie, "Wild Ocean, Where Africa Meets the Sea." Or buy a Value Pass ticket to save on all three.
Great White Alligator
Only 44 exist. We've got one. It may be the most rare live animal you will ever see. Legend says staring into its eye will bring you prosperity!
New photos of alligator are posted. Click "pics" under mood at left.
Also check out a 55-pound alligator snapping turtle. Amazingly ugly! See YouTube clip below, then come see this bad boy in the flesh and bone and spikes and jaws and toenails, yeech!
We also have the weird Amphiuma. This Cajun curiosity may look like an eel or snake but is actually a salamander with teeny-tiny legs.
Sponsored by Aetna.
Also joining the white alligator, is the Alligator Snapping Turtle. Here is a YouTube video from Discovery's "Dirty Jobs."

More about the Aquarium . . .
The video below from You Tube is described by the creator:
This video is about "PL3" Patient Lady 3, the Roton Point Sailing Association and the International Catamaran Challenge Trophy, popularly known as the "Little America's Cup." Tony DiMauro led four consecutive successful defenses of the Little America's Cup with a series of "Patient Lady" catamarans, at the very cutting edge of small-catamaran development.
His "Patient Lady V" (complete with wing mast) is currently on display in the entrance hall of the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium.
My brother in-law "David Reeves Carpenter" was lucky enough to sail on her one summer and the music and voice is all his on this video.
