I joined my first network marketing company in July 2007. I was a business student at the time, but I understood a couple of years prior to that that network marketing was a very viable and great way to generate som extra income, so I had been researching the industry for a couple of years but I hadn't joined any company yet.

But then, in July 2007 I got an opportunity to get in on a ground-floor opportunity here in Norway. It was with a company that already was 5 years old and had beaten every sales record in the book, and I was amongst the very first to be enrolled here in our country, even before they opened up their doors officially.

I got in with to of my best friends, and with my research of this industry together with the timing and opportunity and with this great product, I thought we were going to make huge bucks in no time.

Boy, was I in for a reality check!

We didn't actually hit it off all that bad. We threw some home meetings and met up with a lot of our friends and family and after the first two or three months we had a downline of about 20 people.

Then, the company actually opened their doors officially here in Norway but they had some initial problems with the shipment of their products so our distributors was without product for almost two months. We then decided to quit sponsoring new distributors until things had fallen into place, and when they were, we tried to get the ball rolling again.

We got a little bit of momentum and after a couple of more months we were about 50 people in our organization in total. We actually didn't think we were doing too bad for some first timers.

My problem was - I didn't see any duplication going on. None of the people I brought in brought in any new ones. And I didn't have enough skills to teach these new people how they should build their business.

There were some really motivated people underneath me, and it was frustrating not being able to help them to build and grow their own downlines.

And I got tired of doing the things my upline told me to do, which clearly didn't work:

* I spent thousands upon thousands of the bank's dollars on marketing with very little return

* I cold-called

* I posted flyers

* I dropped opportunity cards

* I bugged friends and family

* I was getting constantly rejected by people who did not see my "amazing opportunity"

My family and friends were all telling me that I was crazy and laughed at me because I was doing another one of those "pyramid things."

While most of the time its close friends and family telling you this that mean well, everyone that was telling me to go get a "REAL JOB" was more broke that I was and absolutely hated their lives, which pushed me to embrace this industry even more).

You must have goals that are large enough and meaningful enough to push you through any and all the adversity you will run into. And trust me, you will be tested...if it was easy, everyone would do it. In fact, you will be tested in ways that you never thought possible...

The adversity itself is not up for debate, the only question is when will it pop up?

However, if your DESIRE outweighs your fear, you persist without exception, and you have the heart of a champion when its gut check time, you will succeed with your own business and in your own life.

Luckily, I came across the right people who taught me everything about the right way of doing this business.
