Marjaika
Among the hundreds of bands coming out these days, whose music, more often than not just sounds synonymous to others, one band stood proud in making a difference. Consider Marjaika, a must-hear for fans of both attentive and adventurous musicality. Originally formed December 2003 by former officemates Michael "Fonsi" Alfonso (lead vocals, guitars, drums, bass) and Ferdz Manegdeg (Guitars, vox, trombone, octavina, banduria, clarinet and pompyang) out of boredom, the band started to pen down songs and compositions while juggling with different bassists and drummers. After 9 months, they were able to get Bogs as their drummer while getting busy filling in their own list of compositions. On April 2005, Abby (band’s organizer) introduced Carlo (Bassist) to the band, hence completing the current Marjaika line-up. The band’s influences ranges widely from pop-alternative bands like Eraserheads, Teeth, Rivermaya and Yano to pop-rock gurus such as Nirvana and Beatles with some punk euphony on the side. But amidst these influences, Marjaika attempts to go beyond further as they try to experiment between reviving the lost glory of Pinoy-rock and penetrating Western music.
