About me: Having spent most of my degree making suspended structures and inverting them, I developed a sculptural interest in structures and space. The interest in light came from having to photograph my work, which from a photographers point of view was 95% background.
I started to use shadows of my structures as 'background drawings' in the photos and then went on to develop concentric perspex structures that modulated light and shadow. Most of the work on this site at present is a documentation of the reflection, refraction and defraction of light throught perspex 'sculptures'. I try to take stills in natural light as this gives the greatest clarity of light relection and shadow.
Videos were filmed in my studio using a spotlight attatched to a vertical swinging arm over a table. The sculpture stays still, as does the camera. The light source circumnavigates the sculpture creating light and shadow that has an ambiguous solidity and scale.
