"If the expression indie-folk-gypsy-pop-roots-music doesn't mean anything to you, lend an ear to 'Music Will Make You Go Insane' by Mark Boulle & The Haba Dudes.
A gentle cocktail, but intensely flavorful with the highest of ambitions, acoustics, melodies and cleverness, well-written songs and a genre quite hard to place, just as well-informed on contemporary folk blues (Jack Johnson) as on our common roots (Nick Drake, Counting Crows...)
They come from the Gold Coast, Australia, but never stays there, if you are to believe the rumor, our ears and their humor. A moment of true, simple happiness, and definitely something to appreciate live!"
Mark Boulle is a singer songwriter from the hinterland rainforests and white sanded beaches on the Gold Coast, Australia. He plays solo and with his band the Haba Dudes.
Haba Dudes are Mark (songs, singing, guitars, harmonica, other), Elodie Mayberry (violin, cello), Daren Williams (bass, singing) and Keith Stephens (drums). The band has also included Jonno Harding Clark (drums on STK), Steve Keyse (keys, saxophones), Neil Macleod (clarinet, flute on STK). Haba Dudes formed in 2005 with an original lineup of MB, Guilherme Marzano on drums, Gonzalo Simo on violin and Marcos Araujo on sax.
They play a unique blend of socially conscious Indie Folk Gypsy Roots music.
MB and the Haba Dudes have made three underground, independently produced full length releases, with limited runs of 500 copies each- ‘All the Leaves are Falling Down’ (2007), ‘Shoot to Kill’ (2007); and ‘Music Will Make You Go Insane’ (2008).
Mark is a prolific songwriter and with the Haba Dudes quickly defining a unique genre of indie folk gypsy pop roots music. They have a growing fan base on the Gold Coast and around the World.
REVIEW OF:
'BOULLE, MARK'
'ALL THE LEAVES ARE FALLING DOWN'
by Martin Raybould www.whisperinandhollerin.com
Release Date: 'June 2007'
Boulle has a natural talent for songwriting that manages to sidestep all the tired clichès to give personal and personable reflections on the world around him. He comes across as is a relaxed and likeable host who is keen to enjoy life but suspicious of superficial pleasures...
If there was any justice in the world it is a record that would earn his fortune. As it is, the likelihood is that it will gain a small but appreciative following. Take time to seek it out and you'll be rewarded with a record that restores your faith in the healing power of pop music.

Some guy at a party once said quite seriously to Mark "Man, you need to be locked in a room just making music nonstop, to which Mark replied, "Yes... I know." The party continued and many people had a good time.
