Lots of Johns... McLaughlin, Coltrane, Scofield, Parricelli, Abercrombie, Leafcutter... and Pat Metheny, Miles Davis, Wayne Krantz, Ben Monder, Tony Williams, Zakir Hussain, Derek Bailey, Trevor Wishart, Squarepusher, Herbie Hancock, Phil Robson, Bill Frisell, Paco de Lucia, Trilok Gurtu, James Brown, Jaco Pastorius, Buddy Guy, Dave Holland, Kevin Eubanks, David Binney, Billy Cobham, Grant Green, Pharoah Sanders, LTJ Bukem, Sonny Sharrock, Steve Coleman...
I first started learning to play guitar in 1989, taking classical guitar with Dave King in Cornwall... The Blues was really my first love - Elmore James, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters and Clapton took me somewhere I'd never heard before...
...But then I was introduced to John McLaughlin, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Shakti and so on. I've not looked back since! It opened up new and decidedly unfamiliar sounds to me... Leading to Miles, Sco and way beyond...
I've been lucky enough to have played at a few festivals, including as support for Deirdre Cartwright's band at Teignmouth Jazz, at the Bristol Harbour Festival and with 'The Beavers' at Camel Rock on Scilly.
I've attended workshops with Mark Lockheart, Mike Outram, Trevor Tompkins and John Etheridge, plus the Bristol Jazz workshops with Andy Hague, Jake McMurchie and others. I've also helped to run a few jam nights around Bristol. And, for what it's worth, I have BA(Hons) Creative Music Technology.
The tracks above include a sketchy recording of an old Kenny Burrell / SRV thing (Chitlins...) and an original (Greasemonkey) which features my trio. There's a test for a chord sequence I like (Chrome) which I recorded at home, and an acoustic tune (Wye Leys) which is kinda pretty...
Also, there are two recording from a band I formed with Vyv-Hope Scott, 'The Balance' (Yellow Fields and Beneath It All).
Hey! Appologies if this is the second comment we've sent you recently...bit of a mix up in the bands communication :)
Anyway.. we've been a little quiet for the last few months but we are very pleased to announce our new EP is finished and up on our myspace! It's called Bright Lights and has four brand spanking new tracks to blow your mind. Please have a listen and tell us what you think and if you love it, buy it! :)
"Exciting, Striding and assured. It has an energy reminiscant of everything that was good about the Klaxons debut album.." - BBC Radio Bristol
