I am an artist and art instructor Native to Hawaii. I currently teach Plein Air Painting at the University of Hawaii. En plein air is a French expression which means "in the open air", and is particularly used to describe the act of painting in the outside environment rather than indoors (such as in a studio). I am here to connect with other people who love art especially plein air painting. I have a new website currently under development and a couple of blogs that I just started that I hope will become a helpful resource and inspirational source for other artists to learn techniques and how to get your art out there in the market. A little about me: I voraciously studied art books while still attending Castle High school,then I began taking uninstructed Life Drawing classes which led me toward entering my work into shows and contests, receiving commissions for work and eventually starting my own graphic design company in 1984 specializing in calligraphy, lettering and silk screening. I have since been monitoring a similar Life Drawing class weekly at Chaminade University. In 1993, I joined en Plein Air (outdoor) painting class offered by the University of Hawaii outreach college. It was through this immersion in Plein Air oil painting that I was able to unearth my unique style of impressionist landscape paintings that I have become well known for. My Plein Air class instructor Florence Ko retired in 2000 and passed the teaching reins on to me. I to teach the Plein Air painting class on Saturdays. My daily outdoor painting pursuits produce the majority of my work for galleries, commissions and shows. My success and enthusiasm for Plein Air painting and my genuine joy for offering instruction to others has brought me him respect and recognition in the art community as well as many invitations to hold workshops throughout Hawaii and the world. I have earned numerous awards and have been the recipient of many honors. My work can be seen all throughout the Hawaiian Islands in private collections, as well as numerous Art Galleries, Fine Retail Shops and Government facilities.
