Mark's biggest influences are wide ranging and include the obvious and not so obvious...Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, Rush, Neil Young, Jerry Joseph, Chris Whitley, the mighty Richmond Fontaine, Bloodkin, David Barbe, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jorma Kaukonen, Mark Knopfler, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, The Black Crowes, Allman Brothers Band, Steve Howe, Jerry Garcia Band, old Genesis, J.J. Cale, U2, Ween, AC/DC, Y & T and even Iron Maiden....and of course, Blitz.
Other influences, mentionable peers and bands that Mark admires is a list entirely too long to mention here...
The list is endless really...influences are everywhere...
Sounds Like
You tell me...hopefully a positive mix of all I have learned from...and continue to learn from.
There are those musicians who cant help but write about what they know...what they have experienced. Mark Brut certainly fits that mold.
Hailing from Philadelphia, Brut recently relocated to Denver, CO after spending the past 12 years in the south, settling in Athens, GA for the past 3 years. He maintains strong roots to his hometown, but has also absorbed much of the music and culture that the south has to offer.
Mark's writing continually touches on the same subjects...how your experiences mold you as a person, finding hope and dealing with disappointment amid the craziness, and trying to make sense of "what you do and what you see." Songs such as "It Is What It Is", "High Country" and "Rest Stop" certainly fall in these categories.
Beyond the songs, Mark's strength lies in his guitar playing. While performing solo acoustic or electric in a band setting, Brut's passion for life bleeds over into his playing. The diversity of his influences also is evident as you hear him play.
Mark has been fortunate to collaborate and/or share the stage with artists such as Jerry Joseph and The Jackmormons, Patterson Hood of Drive By Truckers, Outformation, Bloodkin, North Mississippi All Stars, David Barbe and the Quick Hooks, Dead Confederate, Speakeasy, Adam Musick of Southern Bitch, Cuban Stack, Reagan Boggs, Tate Moore, Waylandsphere, Brian Sofer, Betsy Franck, James "jpat" Dalton, the Tin Roof Band and many other local and national touring acts.
Brut is also powerful as a cover artist, drawing from many different artists and making the songs his own.
