Mark Dowd, 22, is a London based singer-songwriter. Originally born in County Durham, Mark was educated as a classical musician from as young as 5 years old. By the age of 16 Mark had gained a scholarship to study at the prestigious Purcell School of Music in London. This was followed by three years at King’s College London and the Royal Academy of Music, where he gained a first class honours degree in music.
This classical back background, along with a passion for commercial music, has allowed Mark to create a unique, ambient style of pop, with influences ranging from Bach, Debussy and Thomas Newman to The Beatles, Coldplay and Damien Rice.
Performances have ranged from some of London’s smallest acoustic venues, to larger venues including St. John’s Smith Square, Westminster, and Cadogan Hall, Sloane Square. In 2004, Mark made his TV debut on ITV’s The South Bank Show, being interviewed by celebrated television composer Howard Goodall, as well as giving a solo performance.
“Mark is a master of the most complex of musical tasks, at a bewilderingly early age.” – Howard Goodall
