I enjoy reading works on philosophy, mythology, religion, history and science. I collect antique books and swords. I train in the martial arts and with weights on a daily basis. As of 2008 I have written four books on martial philosophy and technique. I am currently working on a screenplay and several other fiction projects. I have done initial research for a number of book projects dealing with philosophy, comparative religion, and mythic Arch-typical Symbolism, but for right now I am focusing on means by which I can produce material for the entertainment industry that relays a positive message to a society that is saturated by media that is not only dull and unimaginative, but which fails to convey the universal truths that storytelling was created to impart.
Music
I enjoy everything from Wagner's operas to heavy metal. My favorites include: Manowar, Pink Floyd, Rammstein, Evanescence, U2, Jimmy Buffett, Sarah McLachlan, Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung) is my favorite classical, along with Beethovin's 9th Symphony.
Movies
Star Wars, Aliens, The Terminator, Conan The Barbarian, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Predator, The Matrix, Underworld, American Werewolf in Paris, etc. Anything about Science fiction is generally of interest to me. Likewise, Movies about the supernatural, especially vampire movies.

I am the author of
BUSHIDO: A MODERN ADAPTATION OF THE ANCIENT CODE OF THE SAMURAI,
FILIPINO COMBAT SYSTEMS: AN INTRODUCTION TO AN ANCIENT ART FOR MODERN TIMES
AND
WADO RYU KARATE/ JUJUTSU. This book was published in December 2007. All my books are available through any online bookstore such as amazon.com. You can order autographed copies through my website bushidoinstitute.com or here on myspace.
My book, THE WARRIOR'S JOURNAL with coauthor Marrese Crump (BATISTA'S personal trainer) is now in publication and available worldwide! search amazon.com and other online booksellers for "Mark Edward Cody" to find all my published works.
I recently completed a martial art/action-adventure screenplay called RAVEN: The Chronicles of Cain. It is the story of a man's search for his father's murders. His quest hurls him into a world of Secret Societies, spies and demons. There are several very influential people in Hollywood who are looking at the story. It is my hope that it will be made into a Motion Picture.
I teach various martial disciplines, including:
Tactical Firearms training,
Kenjutsu (Japanese sword)
and Kali.
I was awarded a 5th Degree black belt in Wado ryu karate/jujutsu in 1998.
The same year I was recognized as a guru (spelled "guro" for martial purposes) in FCS Kali.
In the summer of 2005, I was recognized as a master martial arts instructor by the World Union of Sokes, Masters and Grandmasters.
For 15 years, I owned one of the largest martial art studios in Central Florida. I also ran an indoor shooting range/ training facility and armory, dealing in modern and archaic weapons.
I closed my commercial facility several years ago to focus on my writing and upon private training classes for serious students.
I try to follow the principle of "Bun bu ichi" (The way of the warrior and the way of the philosopher as the same path.
I am a student of philosophy, mythology and comparative religion.
I enjoy interacting with people who are seekers of knowledge and Wisdom. Too many people have lost (or never developed) the capacity to think for themselves. Many people are too unsure of their own beliefs to explore the beliefs of others.
I am a student of comparative religion, philosophy and what I refer to as "The Path of the Warrior". As such, I welcome interaction will all who are seekers of Knowledge.
I am always doing research for potential book projects and I find discourse with others to be a valuable research tool. I welcome correspondence with all who seek logical, non-confrontational discourse.
I have been doing research on a book about Gothic Subculture for many years. This is a project that I have yet to take past the research stage, but I hope to eventually find the right approach to writing the book. As odd as the comparison may seem, I find similarities between the Samurai and “Goths” in their fixation upon death (albeit ever so subtle). Subconscious means by which people (especially Goths) use metaphors for death in order to deal with Life, is a subject that merits study. On the non-philosophical side, I am a Master Photoshop Digital Artist, and yet another of my unrealized projects is to produce a book of Gothic themed digital art.
I enjoy talking with other martial artists and those with a interest in history, strategy, mythology and Classical Literature.
I enjoy meeting and corresponding with people from around the world. I have traveled extensively and always enjoy talking to people from places I have been or hope to go.
I seek to expand my network of contacts to promote my books and to increase my knowledge of people and the world around me. If I send you a friend request, it is probably because your profile reflects one of my interests.
Feel free to ignore me if you do not wish to be in my network. I generally accept friend requests from everyone. Feel free to leave comments, but I do not display them on my public profile. It makes the page load too slowly.
