Me, I’m the one in this video. It was shot at the Wild Buffalo House of Music in Bellingham. The middle instrumental section was edited out due to length.
A Day in the Light
The Beatles. As a child (and occasionally still) I had (have) reoccuring dreams of meeting the Beatles in Liverpool and being asked to be a part of the band... the dreams were always in black and white, very "Hard Day's Night-ish" if you know what I mean, so I've always thought of myself as the 6th Beatle (after George Martin, of course). Johnny Cash, Hank Williams ( Hank III, too), Roger Miller, John Hiatt, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett, Joe Ely, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Cockburn, Bruce Springsteen, Townes Van Zandt, Willie Nelson (and Waylon), Junior Brown, The Band, The Kinks, Buck Owens (and Dwight, of course), Doc Watson, the Everly Brothers, Chuck Berry, Tom Petty (and the Heartbreakers), Woody Guthrie, Louis Armstrong, Louie Prima and Phil Harris (for their work in the original "Jungle Book" movie), The Ramones, The Heats (remember them, Seattle?), The Romantics, Third World (listen to "1865"), The Doors, The Whistle Pigs, Queen, Rush, Jethro Tull, Reverend Billy and his Stop Shopping Gospel Choir, Dan Pellegrini, Jorge Rivera (my favorite Cuban percussionist and vocalist), Pat Moss, Brett Smith, Bill Bilyeau (I will never forget gigging with you; you were a generous, kind man and an incredible musician- RIP), Fran Birdsong, Christopher Hobbs, Zane and So Damn Insane, Frank Johnson (and his brother Orville...), Pat Martin, Sam Allbright, and especially, lately, Star Anna and the Laughing Dogs (Frank, Justin, and Travis).
I play mostly acoustic guitar (for fighting tyranny, of course), a bit of mandolin, ukelele, harmonica, and am learning some lap steel and mountain dulcimer. I write a lot of politically informed songs centered on issues like peace (and war), greed, consumerism, the environment, animal (and human) rights, etc. I think some of my songs are kinda funny, too- kind of like Roger Miller, Steve Earle, and Hank fighting over that last slug of codeine cough syrup. You can find me at singer/songwriter showcase-type events, busking at the Pike Place Market in Seattle, and open-miking around Bellingham, WA. I have a home recorded 5 song demo out now, and an album in the (hopefully) near future of both older and newer songs I've been working on. I'm also co-mascot (they call me "Brother X") for Derby Liberation Front of Seattle's own Rat City Roller Girls. Hello. For our final update of 2008 we have a track from the wonderful Todd Snider, classic sounds from The Snakes, the spellbinding voice of Kate Campbell, the atmospheric Iguanas and some leftfield rock'n'roll from Slithering Beast. Merry Christmas/Solstice/whatever and a Happy New Year!
Yes, it's that time of the month again when your listening pleasure can be enhanced by heading off to the AUK Myspace site where you will find folk whimsy from The Travelling Band, poignant thoughfulness from Waylon Jennings, The Butless Chaps (don't you just want to know what they sound like?) and the sweetly swinging (and singing) Tish Hinojosa.
New tracks are up on the website for your listening pleasure. We have the hopefully appropriately titled “Sunshine” from Grantura, a track from the new Catie Curtis album, 166 seconds of cosmic pop from Daniel Wylie and, lest you think we’ve gone all soppy on you, “Head Full Of War from Jackie Leven.

Hey Mark, We enjoyed listening to your music very much. Yeah, we will be up North. We have a couple of festivals in your neck of the woods this Summer. Not sure how far away Amboy is from you but we are playing that. We will also be touring up to Idaho in early September not sure what we will do along the way but probably will pick up a few shows in Washington so hopefully we can connect out there somewhere.
