BIO
Francesco Giannico, best known as Mark Hamn, originates from Carosino a small town near Taranto, in the southern part of Italy.
He's graduated in "Musicology and Musical Heritage" at the University of Lecce with a thesis on "History of film music".
Musically he was born as an indie-guitarist, but an unexpected convergence with experimental electronic music some ten years ago changed his musical orientation, driving him into a different direction.
During the recent years several of his works were published on the Internet in the form of free downloadable albums by popular net labels, including the italian Sine3pm.
His musical approach is better described as a cinematic journey which pushes the boundaries of digital media even further by incorporating smooth melodies and gentle textures.
More canonical instruments such as guitar and piano are constantly present into Mark's music, within interrupted structures or long and dreaming sonorous carpets.

(ENG)4 Sonatas for electroacoustic thoughts is a microcosmos of modified sounds, folk-derived loops, noise nebulas in which it is not easy to see the light. The soundscapes are rough and elusive, but well-balanced, and never excessive. The work (4 tunes for a total length of about 20 minutes) comes from a collaboration between Francesco Giannico and Stefano Spataro.
In a pragmatic sense, the album is a mix of field recordings of an audio/video installation about Taranto's Ilva (made by Francesco Giannico) and electronic oscillations/acoustic hints (by Stefano Spataro).
Nonmaterial sounds, layered over and over, folk memories and Interstellar Space strikes clash with discordant string lines and melodic scraps of an unspecified nature... A calm promenade in the unease of sound.
(ITA) 4 Sonatas for electroacoutic thoughts è un microcosmo di suoni preparati , loop di matrice folk, nebulose noise all'interno delle quali è difficile intravedere la luce. I paesaggi sonori si mostrano ruvidi e incerti ma equilibrati, mai eccessivi. Il lavoro, che consta di 4 tracce per la durata di circa 20 minuti , è frutto della collaborazione tra i due musicisti Francesco Giannico e Stefano Spataro.
Nel concreto l'album si rivela come un incrocio tra materiali sonori di un'installazione audio/video sull'Ilva di Taranto di Francesco Giannico e i fremiti elettronici e gli accenni acustici di Stefano Spataro.
Suoni evanescenti e stratificati di volta in volta, reminiscenze folk e incursioni alla Interstellar Space che si scontrano con linee d'archi dissonanti e frammenti melodici di varia natura per una serena passeggiata nell'inquietudine dei suoni.

Taken from the acclaimed "Miastenia" record .. Records, the song Voodoo is now remixed, decontextualized, reworked and covered by ten different and valuable artists from around the world. From Belarus (Buben) to U.S.A. (Amy Denio), passing through the old U.K. (Luminous) and all the various provinces of OvO's own land, Italy.
Each artist took the sound of the original recordings (cello, noises, the recognizable drumming of Bruno and Stefania's screaming) and re-used them in unknown ways. Sometimes adding contemporary-style piano pieces (Mark Hamn), post-rock guitar and violin drones (Sparkle in Grey) or mysterious instrumental additions (Amy Denio).
Someone else went hard on tape and concrete treatments (Harshcore and Larsen Lombriki), another with beats and electronics (Buben), passing throug the noisy dark lands of Luminous and Andrea Marutti.
Moreover, OvO themselves give us a different and more powerful version of the track, and the videomakers of Invernomuto contribute with a weird and narrative video.

Published as a friendly co-production between Afe and Bar La Muerte.
Strangely enough, both Bruno Dorella of Bar ..La Muerte.. and Andrea Marutti of Afe contributed guitar and treatments on "Les Justes" - the long opening track - at an earlier stage when the album was still supposed to be released by another label.
The title of this track, and all the others as well, is a reference to the work of Arthur Rimbaud, the famous and influential french poète maudit.
"À partir est d'ici la seule solution" is a track which includes many of the elements used by Mark Hamn on this release. It begins with a looped woodwind instrument paired with laptop-generated high frequencies; a timpani roll introduces simple but effective guitar melodies and arpeggios accompanied by field recordings of water and rusty gear. The woodwind loop and timpani return in the closing section as a recording of a restless crowd in the distance discloses a sort of discomfort.
"Le besoin de la réflexion" is the shortest track on "Je déchire l'ongle aux criminels", it features fluid piano patterns finding their way through cinematic pads and various layers of microsounds.
"Malaises douces" begins with what seems to be an highly distorted guitar drone teamed up with digitally manipulated rhytmic noises. Peaceful guitar loops slowly emerge as more and more treated field recordings populate the background.
"La charnière du temps" is a lovely droney number that showcases particularly evocative qualities. It's a perfect soundtrack to accompany an old Super-8 home movie and the fading colours of what once was youth. For sure it is one of the tracks contained on "Je déchire l'ongle aux criminels" that impressed us the most.
With "Le vent fait un tour en dehors à la notification de moi" we get back into glitcher territories. This track is constructed on all sort of sound scoriae and offers a closer look on the digital side of Mark's music, so to speak. ....
"Automatism de la dernière heure" is another ambient-oriented composition enriched by rhythmic miniatures, which is a nice ending to a beautiful album of skillfully created sober and heartfelt music.....
