I grew up in Prospect Heights, Illinois......back then the fringes of Chicago.
There were still many creeks and cornfields for a kid to live with some adventure.
During the teenage years, friends and I would hang out in the famous woods surrounding
the Desplaines river, or the abandoned quarry off Milwaukee Avenue.
I learned to play guitar through a network of friends, books, and thousands
of hours of repetition. I'd play on the edge of my bed as a 16 year old, and
when I heard the footsteps of a mom, dad, sister or brother coming down
the hallway.....I'd stop. This was my shell, only room for one.
As time went by I slowly learned to share what I worked so hard at.
I remember my first open stage.....well I remember the blur anyway.
Learning how to overcome stage freight was, and still can be a challenge.
But I've always known somehow that what's good inside eventually pours out with ease.
Songwriting at first was something I just could not do. I felt my life was
just too "normal" there were no interesting stories to be told. I never
hitchhiked out West or rode on an elephant's back. So then, without
seemingly trying, words began to collect into phrases and phrases into
songs. And so I'll remind myself........Don't waste any more time cause you're looking
too hard, when all the answers are so close by.
I like the new demo, I finally just started playing again for the first time in a long time. It is always good to hear original music, catch you in town sometime.
hey mark, its been a while. hope your doing well. I love the new music. I would like to jam out sometime. Let us know your schedule and when your playing next. Have a good week! Victoria~
Love the new songs. Glad to hear "Day in the Sun" again. I'm inspired to get out on the back porch with my guitar. Maybe I've spent too much time in the basement.
I'll never forget those days - I remember it well. One day I hope I can go back to Willow as I've missed going tremendously. I'm coming into town end of June and I hope I can come see you play.
Got the place of my dreams!! Nice neighborhood, hardwood floors, big windows, two blocks from the $1 PBR tavern, laundry- closer to downtown... I move in tonight! Give me a call this week if you have a sec- hope all is well!!
