My work does not matter much... at least not yet. My family matters more (wife of 17 years, one 6-year-old son, one exotic Japanese Shiba Inu named Gato: a dog named "cat"-- how about that?) My house is so small my dreams don't all fit in it. I build furniture, I write fiction, I buy groceries, I try to be content with what I've got. I occasionally take anti-depressants. I pay somebody else to clean da Haus (but I *do*feel guilty about that). I'm fat and happy, as they say ...only too much fat, and not enough happy.
All Natural Skin Care's Comprehensive Guide
http://www.complete-natural-skin-care.com/Music
[List formerly in " I'd like to meet", and woefully incomplete] : U2, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Cockburn, Neil Young, Randy Newman, Mark Knopfler, Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, David Sanborn, Herbie Hancock, Sting, Lyle Lovett, Led Zeppelin/Robert Plant, Allison Krauss, Alanis Morisette, Ben Harper, Chuck D, The Roots, Kanye West, Al Jarreau, Bobby McFerrin, Rickie Lee Jones, Sheryl Crow, Diana Krall, Sraha MacLachlan, YoYo Ma, Igor Stravinsky, Little Richard, James Taylor and whomever those guys and gals happen to be hangin' with at the time. Then maybe Bono, after we raise a pint of Harp to the memory of Billie Holliday, can introduce us to Billy Bragg. Then it's back to the States to visit the graves of Buddy Holly, Dexter Gordon, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams.Movies
Television
Every summer re-run season, the spell is broken, and I'm reminded how TV is overrated and addictive. The rest of the year, I watch, but "don't wanna discuss it... think it's time for a change... you may get disgusted... start thinking that I'm strange". And I know from whence I speak when it comes to TV. I've worked in that field on and off for twenty years. To be safe, turn on PBS, turn on Monk, My Name Is Earl, The Office, maybe Heroes (which is slipping), take a peek at the Discovery Channel (especially *Deadliest Catch*), Jeff Corwin on Animal Planet, Tivo the The Daily Show and Colbert Report religiously, and otherwise turn it off and ***go toss a football around with the neighborhood kids***.Books
Yuh... I'll take a 10 to 500 year-old classic that's stood the test of time over most current trends any day. I've taught English Lit (high school & college), so I'm perhaps an elitist. But better safe than sorry: Start with Don Quixote de La Mancha, move on to Mark Twain, Arthur Conan Doyle, E.A. Poe, T.S. Eliot, ee cummings, Fitzgerald, Isabel Allende, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Kurt Vonnegut, Amy Tan, John Irving, John Updike, Toni Morrison. Can't go wrong there. If I had to pick recent/current books or authors to recommend, I like Douglas Coupland (_Generation X_ ), Leif Enger (_Peace Like a River_), Anne Lamott (_Traveling Mercies_, or anything else of hers), Cormac McCarthy, Neal Stephenson (_Cryptonomicon_), William Gibson, David Sedaris, Sarah Vowell, Brad Listi, Michael Chabon, and the twin enfants terrible Neal Pollack and Dave Eggers. Tom Robbins ain't bad, nor are the Florida Fools Dave Barry and Carl Hiassen. And for sheer economy of words, and intensity, let's attend a movable feast at the grave of Hemingway (the life of any party... literary, political or otherwise).Heroes
I have so many, and I seem to meet new ones every day. See above for the first hundred or so entries on my ever-expanding list. It now includes Barack Obama as well, win or lose...

About me:
I'm the refrigerator poet, the chubby prophet... magnetic Word+food=heaven. I'm a Web-spinning Spider. I'm a misanthrope (with a side of hope), a dreamer/schemer in bed with the Redeemer, sighing sojourner, bridge-builder and burner. Music first brought me to myspace; where will I be tomorrow? (yourspace?, outer space?). I'm so self-consciously clever, so annoying that I might start to grow on you, like a fungus. I'm my own worst enemy. I make a point of not belonging. Ellul is of the lesser-known but very influential theologians and sociologists of the 20th century. See for yourself what you're missing.
Who I'd like to meet:
You. First you can read my blog to REALLY see what I'm all about. Then we'll get some coffee, and together we'll go say hi to Bono, who is just one degree of separation from almost everyone else I want to meet. For instance, I'm sure Bono will be glad to introduce us to fellow 2005 Man of the Year Bill Gates. Then its off to a photo-op with Robin Williams, Bill Belichick, Billy Bob Thornton, the late Bill W and Esther Williams. Then maybe we'll stop in on Billy Mills (the famous Native American Olympic runner, ...also the name of my non-famous nephew), Billy Williams, Billy DEE Williams, William "Refrigerator" Perry, Billy Graham, and Bilbo Baggins. Hopefully Bilbo can take it from there. Certainly he knows John Tolkien (who I'll have to wait to meet, of course). But maybe he also knows John Updike, John Irving, John Cheever, John Sayles, Johnny B. Goode, John Flansbergh of TMBG (and the other John, if we have to...), John Cougar, John Hiatt (who should drag along his pal John Prine, since they're twin sons of different mothers), John Mayer, John Paul Jones (he can bring Plant but not Page,... Jimmy will just trash the place), Johnny Bravo (aka Greg Brady), Johnny Depp, John Malkovich, John Nicholson (aka Jack), Jack (of Beanstalk fame), Jackie Chan, John Walker Lind, John Cleese, John Hurt, Jon Voigt, Elton John, Olivia Newton John, John Lee Hooker, John Doe, John Waters, Jon Favreau, John Turturro, Jean Reno, John Leguizamo, Geovany Soto (Go Cubs Go!), John Madden, Tommy John, John Paxson (much nicer than M.J.), Johnny Unitas, Jack Lambert (Steel Curtain forever, Baby!), and Jonathan Papelbon (Red Sox closer and reknowned Irish stepdancer). Together with all these Johns, we'll raise a Johnnie Walker (Black, of course) and toast the Bills, Isabels, Nobel laureates, Willas, Arundhatis, Janes and the hundreds of other writers, musicians, filmmakers and leaders who inspire or amuse us.Visit Christarchy!

that all sounds awesome. where in europe did you two go?
Karen Watson is fiction person at Tyndale House Publishers in Chicago. She and her husband Bill were our best friends in college and in seminary, late '70s and early '80s. They recently came through Lexington.
Know of . . . am acquainted with her husband, a Christian non-fiction writer about social justice - "Justice in the Burbs." Very cool that you were able to go to Wheaton's conference. Looking forward to the fruits of your Europe trip. Remind me how to get to the Wordpress blog.
Shalom...
Hey there... how are you?
So, I just wanted to check and see if you got the free songs/video download I messaged you about...? If you haven't yet, you can get your copy at www.gavinmikhail.com/freesongs.htm. And, just so you know, it comes straight from my official gavinmikhail site (so there's no chance of viruses, etc... a few people have asked about that...). Anyway, let me know if you get it ok...
Thanks again for listening. I hope you're doing great...
