After studies in Australia Mark completed a Master of Music degree in composition at the Eastman School of Music in the USA. He has been commissioned by many prominent orchestras, ensembles and soloists and his works have been performed and broadcast in Australia and overseas. His output of 80 works includes pieces for solo instrument and orchestra, string quartets, general orchestral music, two books of piano preludes, chamber ensemble works, choral works, an oratorio and scores for film, television and the theatre
He is a recipient of an Australia Council Fellowship, a prizewinner in the Tokyo International Competition for Chamber Music Composition, the winner of the inaugural Miriam Hyde Composer-Pianist Award and he received the 2007 Albert H. Maggs Composition Award from the University of Melbourne.
