BELOW - MARK STEIN (VANILLA FUDGE) - MARK JOHNSON - SAMMY AND JESSE EPLAN -RECORDING SESSION FOR UPCOMING "KING OF LOVE" RELEASE BY THE EPLANS
Influences
Sunsets, stars in the night sky, standing in front of the ocean, views from mountain tops, New York City alleyways, Greenwich Village rooftops, early morning rain, drums off in the distance, the sound of cars going by a motel room near the Interstate and Buddy Holly playing and singing. THE SONG "NUMBERS" FROM 12 IN A ROOM IS AVAILABLE AT WWW.MARK-JOHNSON.COM
I'm a King rollin' tuffy - surfin' borrowed wings and I sings like the stormy sea - I'm cut from cloth that hung from the masts - of pirate ships fore and aft. I lean over the sides of the ships I reside - and climb even higher than sky - I see across water and watch at night stars then fly in my dreams where I are. You see me go by - like flash powder flies - doing figure eight swoops on the deck- then right where you stand I gather command - and spin out to survey the tides. I criss-cross the spouts and with hurricanes joust - so I know I'm alive and be well. There's no matter strong that takes me along - until sleep falls me into the dawn........................................
A few years back, New Wave Rock-a-Billy sensation from the CBGB's camp, Robert Gordon recorded three of my songs including the title album cut, "Are You Gonna Be The One." Legendary Blues artist Paul Butterfield followed by cutting my song "Bad Love" featuring Paul Shaffer and Will Lee from the David Letterman band. Next, Maggie ,Terre and Suzzy, The Roches cut my song, "Love Radiates Around" for Warner Brothers, followed by The Smithereen's debut record on Capitol, "Especially For You" which included my co-write with Steve Forbert and Pat Dinizio, "Groovy Tuesday." Next Shawn Colvin and Lucy Kaplansky recorded my co-write with George Gerdes, "Delivery Truck" for Lucy's CD, "The Tide" with Shawn producing. A few years went by and Dave Edmunds recorded my song "King Of Love" as did Blackie and the Rodeo Kings nine years later. As a performer myself, I had an alt. rock group called The Wild Alligators and was signed to Steve Paul's CBS/Sony custom label, Blue Sky. I signed to Bob Dylan's publishing company for a few years as well. Of all these things, my greatest joy came from just sitting around for hours making the demos for these songs. I put a collection of them together and released it as 12 in a room. BELOW ARE SOME YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF DAVE EDMUNDS DOING MY SONG "KING OF LOVE." BELOW THE TWO DAVE EDMUND VIDEO CLIPS IS A CLIP OF ROBERT GORDON DOING MY SONG "LOVER BOY" FROM HIS RCA RECORDS RELEASE "ARE YOU GONNA BE THE ONE"
