'Moonlight's Back in Style', is the debut album from Mark Moraghan. A modern take on the swing style, the album features original material written by Nicky Campbell whose perceptive songwriting with subtle contemporary references are a benchmark in a 'new swing' era.
"A welcome venture into the world of swing. Angel Don't Cry in particular is a charming and moving ballad."
Sir Michael Parkinson
The pair are joined by exceptional musicians including the keyboard player, big band arranger and musical director, Paul Buck. The outstanding band also includes bassist Mark Howell and drummer Sam Brown with guest vocals by Margo Buchanan.
The singer Mark Moraghan, has trodden an acclaimed path as an actor - Owen Davis in Holby City, Greg in Brookside, Ray Wyatt in Dream Team and as Barry Scouser in Harry Enfield and Chums - but swing is his thing. It always was. How could it not be?
"He is relaxed, easy and cool ...
Blazing excellence"
Stewart Copeland, The Police
Inspired by Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Big Band music, Mark has always enjoyed singing. From performing with a Liverpool band to appearing on the BBC series 'Just the Two of Us', his vocal skills have not gone unnoticed. Any label taking on a celebrity album would either have to be crazy, or think they are onto a sure thing. Neither was the case when Linn Records, famous for ground-breaking jazz, signed Mark on the back of an anonymous demo; The music speaks for its self.
It was during filming of 'Just the Two of Us' that Mark was introduced to Nicky Campbell. The chemistry was instant, especially in realising their mutual ambition to create an album of original swing that would prove they do "sing 'em and write 'em like they used to". A special musical collaboration, 'Moonlight’s Back in Style' not only showcases Mark's voice but also premieres the songwriting talents of Sony Award-winner Nicky.
"The lyrics are annoyingly good!"
Sir Tim Rice
He has been composing music since the 1980s. Throughout the last decade Nicky has developed his compositional style and lyric development to create the songs of 'Moonlight's Back in Style': "I fell in love with the idea of making up songs. It's an endless love ... communicating emotions musically and lyrically is the best feeling".
