GeneralOne of my favorite places is a Texas State Natural Area Called Enchanted Rock. Located outside of Fredricksburg, TX and about 90 miles Northwest of San Antonio, it is a beautiful place of peace and God's glory. The summit of "the Rock" is a particularly peaceful spot.

This shot shows the Rock from the valley. The small tree at the far left is the tree in the Summit Pic.

Another fav place of mine is the long, narrow barrier island named Padre Island. I prefer the North half over the South Padre Island you have probablly heard about.

Another great place I like to visit is Lost Maples State Park here in Texas. It is about the only place in all of Texas that has traditional Fall colors. It is called Lost Maples, because it is the only Maple forest in Texas, and no one knows for sure how it came to be. Some scientist think that thousands of years ago there was some kind of disaster that killed off a great herd of Plains Beast of some kind, and Buzzards, who already had maple seeds in their bowels, came to feed on the dead animals. In the process they planted the seeds they were carrying. I know it sounds nasty, but that is reall what the scientist think. Anyhow, it is a really great place for hiking, especially in the Fall.
MusicContemporary Chistian Rock Newsboys, Building 429, Audio Adrenaline, Switchfoot; also old school rock like Pink Floyd, Yes, and Jethro Tull.
Movies"Citizen Kane", "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", "High Plains Drifter", "ET", and "The Empire of the Sun."
TelevisionOn the Time Warner Cable system here in San Antonio they have a channel that shows colege telecources. That is the channel I watch most. Also a little PBS. The News Hour, Nova, Frontline, and The American Experience. And on Saturday - Religion & Ethics News Weekly.
BooksThe Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis, especially book 3: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Also Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters by Lewis. Shardik by Richard Adams, A really great adventure book about a quest for true spirituality. A really good "guy-book". Destiny's Road by Larry Niven, Sociological Sci-fi about over comming your past and beating the system at its own game. Wizard War by Hugh Cook, A fantasy tale with lots of real-life meaning. The change the main character undergoes is the real story. And there is a really fun application of the idea of moving mountains. Three guys ride a mountain into battle. Check it out. The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury, A collection of stories of hope and dreams. Don't let go of yours. Blue Like Jazz by Donal Miller, A really good book on Christianity that blends with the real world. Paul: A Nover by Walter Wangerine, Jr. Paul: Apostle of God's Glory in Christ by Thomas R. Schreiner.

The Alamo

I live in San Antonio, TX, the home of the Alamo. That is a pic of it above. That is actually not the origianl Alamo, but is an historically accurate reproduction built on the original site in Downtown San Antonio.

I am a born-again Christian who was saved by the Lord Jesus Christ himself on October 3, 2004 in my own back yard. My life was horrible before that; and has been wonderful since. Here is a brief version of my story.

I was born in San Antonio on April 4, 1953. My parents were born in Ohio, and moved here because my mother worked for the Air Force and got transferred to the old Kelly Air Force Base. We lived in a three bedroom, one bath house on the North side of town. In 1971 I graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. A year later my father died from liver cancer. That really messed me up. I was very depressed and didn’t find life much fun. About a year latter some friends turned me on to pot. I also started drinking. It wasn’t long before I could not think of life without drugs and alcohol. For the next thirty years I drank and did some kind of drug, mainly pot, almost every day. I tried to quit a couple of times, and did for awhile; but I always went back to the pot and the beer because I just was never happy. The thing is, even with the pot and beer I still wasn’t happy. I was also hooked on cigarettes. I smoked two packs a day. I wanted to quit it all, but I just couldn’t. I couldn’t stop, and I did not want to go on. So one day, Sunday, October 3, 2004, I decided that I would kill my self. I decided I would take a whole bunch of sleeping pills and wash them down with beer. All I had to do was wait until noon so I could go to local grocery store to buy the pills and beer. I was walking around in my back yard filled with anxiety, smelling the smell of death all around me, and hearing a constant roaring in my ears. All of a sudden I heard a calm voice say, “Be still.” At that moment the roaring in my head stopped, and I stood still. Then I heard the same voice say, “Mark, I love you.” I did not have to ask who was talking; I knew who it was. At that point I asked God to please forgive me for all my stupid sins, and take my life away and give me a new one. At that moment I felt the old life sucked out of me, and a new life flood into me. I was re-born. Freed from my past sins, all my addictions (with no withdrawal symptoms), and all my fears and worries, I began a new life. Now I praise and thank God for what he did for me, and try to tell others of the great joy of knowing Jesus Christ.

If you do not know Jesus personaly, and have questions about the whole religion thing, feel free to send me a message. You can also visit my personal web site where you can read my story. That link is The Bold Witness. If you are already a Christian, you might find some things to inspire you and help you with you walk with the Lord. Feel fee to send me any comments or questions you might have. I am also always happy to receive prayer request. I believe in the power of prayer, and I always pray for people when it is requested. And even sometimes when it is not requested.

I like to study the Bible; especially with friends.
May the Lord Jesus Christ be with you and bless you.

Peace.

Laura J is a friend and Christian sister. She is the wife of the Music Minister and a member of the Praise Team at Spirit and Truth Worship Center. She is a great person with a beautiful spirit and a wonder voice. Give her tunes a try and you will be hooked.

Mike is also a friend and Christian brother from Spirit and Truth Worship Center where he serve on the Praise Team along with Laura. Check out his MySpace site and listen to his music. It is some of the most syphisticated and enjoyable music I have heard in a long time. I know you will love it.
Who I'd like to meet:

The Christian author Donal Miller. I found his first book, Blue Like Jazz very inspiring; especially the chapter on forgiveness.

I would also like to meet the Bible scholar, theologian, and teacher Dr. Thomas R. Schreiner. I found his book on Paul to be extremely helpful, not only in understanding Paul, but the basic concepts of Chriatianity.

I would like to go back in time and meet George Washington. I think he must have been one of the most extraordinary men to have ever lived.
