Mark grew up in the south of England, in sussex farmland community, in a time when there was lino on the floor, coal fire in the kitchen, tin bath with kettles of hot water, hand crankhandles for starting cars, and bycycle to the factory-job/workshop as an apprentice welder/sheetmetal-worker/fabricator/crash-repairer Auto-technician, to clock-in on the mechanical clocking-in machine, with the cardboard punchcard, and five minutes late was ½ an hour off your pay, that you had to work for, trip to the recordshop for Howlin' Wolfs single, on Saturday morning, and home to the 1-tube-watt Dansette recordplayer, that if you put the lid down, gave you more bass in the sound. There was very little of anything at all, and playing your dimestore bass or guitar, acoustically along to the records, taught you riffs, and songs. In this earlier time, it was possible to gig everywhere with ease, as every pub had a band, and every band had a pub, so gigging built strong voices, and live experience, and repertoire of many songs, unlike the appalling situation of England today, and, of very few gigs left, Endless interference from Insane Authorities that over-regulate Basic life, impossible music licences, over-regulations and expense, and musicians having difficulty learning songs, due to many multivarious different reasons that cannot be stated here. Mark nowdays spends some of his time researching and investigating data. Studying Philosophy, theory and drill, and positive application. Alternative health research, audio/visual entrainment-alpha state-research and development, along with studying songwriting concepts, and theory that relates to this.
Mark grew up being in touch with nature, the countyside and rural communities, English culture and heritage, before open door immigration policy Utterly decimated and devastated England, destroying cultral mores and values, along with E.U. Regulations that have destroyed British functionality/way-of-life. The tracks you hear, here on this Myspace page, feature Mark playing guitar and singing and songwiting. Tracks 1,2,4,5,6,11, are all original songs, from a 12 track live album, called 'Mark Percy Live' recorded by Jeff Ward Mobile Recording, on two Roland ancient Portastudios linked together. Jeff is a very kind man, and an outstanding guitarist and musician, songwriter and producer. jackson kenelow windsor-baird, keyboards. additional enginering, James Litherland. laura Braun, photographer of incredible talent, took the photographs of Mark that you see here. Principally, Mark Percy is a Five String electric Bassplayer/Singer/Songwriter/Lyricwriter firstly and foremost, as well as double bass player, Mark Percy is also a Guitarist/Vocalist/Songwriter/Lyricwriter, dobro/national/acoustic player, and some piano/alto. Mark was firstly struck by Bassplayer Singer-songwriters in the mould of Larry Graham, Glenn Hughes, James Dewar, Phil lynott, Frankie Miller, Davey Pattison, Jack Bruce, as well as Hendrix. Mark Percy is of Scottish parents from Alnwick and Galashiels, and contary to industry rumours, is not of jewish parentage. Mark was encouraged to try guitar and vocals, as well as bass, to more broadly present himself, by the legendary and important musician Bryson Graham, Phenominal drummer of Spooky Tooth and Zen Attack, and Girl, and Jim Capaldi fame, after getting continiously bullied, messed and mauled around as a bassplayer/singer/songwriter, by musicians, and management and companies. especially management, who will sacrifice valuable creative musicians, to control thier own interests. Mark Percy is a seasoned veteran of many a campaign, having played with many famous musicians and artists.
Mark discovered the blues and jazz, at six years of age listening to the Mike Raven R&B Show in the 60s, on his Phillips transistor radio, playing Sunhouse, Howling Wolf, Bessie Smith, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Albert King, Freddie King, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Witherspoon. Coltrane, Miles, Ramsey Lewis, Billy holiday, Ella Fitzgerald. The effect of this was gigantic.
The first gig mark ever saw was Jimi Hendrix at the Hastings Pier Pavillion, which set a precedent and a standard. this later obviously led to Robin Trower records, after seeing 'Jude' with Frankie Miller and Robin Trower and James Dewar, a formidable 4piece, at Brighton University.(Mark was also in a power trio with all origional material written by mark, called R.P.M. with Reg Isadore, who sadly recently passed away. reg was drummer for robin trower on bridge of sighs.) Mark then discovered Larry Graham's Central Station, Trapeze Mk1 and Mk2, Little Feat, and the usual refined acts that came after this like Mother's Finest, Arcangels, Govornment Mule and Donny Hathaway. When Steve Marriot came back from America in the 80's, Steve sought mark out, asking Mark to lend him his Marshall plexi50's and 100's with two Marshall basketweave 4X12 cabinets, and Ampeg SVT mk 1's with 8X10's, and for Mark to guitar-tech for Steve personally, and Fallon Simspson on drums, and Jimmy Leverton on bass and vocals. Steve lived in Arkesden, near Saffron Walden Essex, opposite a pub. Steve often taught and showed Mark musical techniques, and ideas, he thought necessary, from his own soul/gospel roots. Mark is NOT a member of any "organisation", or a "movement", prefering only to be a Christian, and visit Christian churches across the world only.
