Books
It's almost embarrassing to admit, but outside of comics, the only books I tend to read are based ..rek. In particular, there's a series called "New Frontier" by writer extraordinaire, Peter David, that I love. Otherwise, mostly read Trek books based on the original series and Next Generation. As a Trek fan, I've been increasingly turned off by the later series. I loved the classic as a child, and I was absorbed by TNG (only missing a single first-run episode the whole time the series aired). Deep Space 9, I liked some of the series but as a whole was not thrilled. Voyager, I liked some of the books I read far better than the actual show. And Enterprise, well, I've watched maybe three episodes and haven't even tried any of the books.
Otherwise, I read the odd books that have a southern flavor, like Bailey White's series of books about her ecentric family.
I recently read Po Bronson's What Should I Do With My Life? I really found this book inspiring.
I'll always happily accept recommendations on what I should devote some time to trying in the realm of literature.
Into most geek-interests. Spend too much time at work and at home wielding a keyboard and jockeying a mouse
I've enjoyed comics since before I could read and still addicted to the paper crack
Have recently started to travel some and see the world. Within the past three years, I've been to London thrice, Edinburgh twice, Mexico twice, Rome and Napoli, Italy, and most recently the oldest tourist destination, Egypt! Before this rash of travel, I had never left the country. I did most of that traveling solo - which seems to surprise and bewilder many people. I don't feel like I should delay the enjoyment of life until I have someone to share it with, though.
I've gotten a couple of articles posted about my trips at Boots N All. My articles are here.
In the past few years, I've taken a creative writing course as well as intro. photography and splurged on a digital SLR (Love my Canon 20d!). It's mostly for fun, but I do kick around the idea that it could lead to a profession I would enjoy more. Or if nothing else maybe a side-bar dealio that makes life more fun.
I'm a project manager for a local Atlanta company, and that's a position I've held for seven years now. I'm quite bored, but it's paying the bills and I've had time for the trips I wanted, so it's hard to abandon the safety net
right now.
Who I'd like to meet:
I won't dismiss the possibility that I could stumble upon my one true love, here, but mainly this is about reconnecting with old friends and making some new ones along the way.
Obvously, we stand a better chance of connecting if there's some overlap in interests.
