Last year the Seattle Indian Health Board and the University of Washington TV teamed up to produce this program on the history of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act. I hosted the conversation -- and learned a great deal.

Heroes
This is actually what my next book is about: I think the 20th century had truly great American Indian leaders.
I've been lucky. One of the best things about journalism is that it's given me the opportunity to meet many, many remarkable people. A few of the most interesting: The Dali Lama, Joe Delacruz, Lucy Covington, George P. Lavatta, my grandparents.
I am grateful.

Updates for Prez On The Rez
Hi Mark! Thanks for the ADD! I hope you have a good and healthy sense of humor~I do ;) Look forward to reading your work, and talking with you in the future... KIRBY
I am enjoying reading your posts about POTR. I wonder if you could ask people what they would like to ask these candidates in an ideal world where there's plenty of time and the candidates don't spend all their time figuring out the right spin. That could be an interesting contrast to the pragmatic question of how you should handle your responsibilities as moderator in this real world where expectations have to be fairly low.
Of course, your sovereignty question from Unity managed to do both, so I am looking forward to seeing what results from this process. I just wish that there was more of a recognition both out there and among Native people that our world is not constituted by elected tribal leaders, but by all of us together.
Hey hey Mark, Yes I remember you too, I have since moved to the US, and I have to tell you its wonderful, but I miss (peaceful)Canada. OMG, I laugh so hard every time I watch how goofy mouthed the prez is, hehehe. Well I hope life is treating you good, and keep in touch.
