"The plan was this... To make a consistently brilliant rock album that didn't tail off after the first five tracks. An album that would lyrically combine the guile of Michael Stipe and the pathos of Jarvis Cocker. To make an album that my older brother would like. I know which is the most difficult to achieve. If my brother had his way, I would be a policeman..." Simon Bradshaw (lead vocals, guitar and all round marlowe leader-type person) talking about marlowe's new album 'Deep Breathe Fake Air' released early 2007..
So this has been the end objective, but what has been the means? Well, it all started a very long time ago in a bedsit in Liverpool (well, not quite, but it sounds more romantically tragic so bear with me)....
Back in the day, simon got together with some old school friends (aron - drums and paul - bass) and started to put together some tunes, they decided to branch out a little musically and so asked chloe to add some flute to one of their tunes. Due to a misunderstanding she went away and wrote parts for all the songs and so became the fourth member of marlowe. A string player was added who subsequently left, along with the bass player and they were replaced by rachel - violin and ed - bass. A second violin player - claire - soon came aboard the marlowe ship full time in order to fatten out the sound and finally a trumpet player named Chris was brought in to add depth to the brass section.
Marlowe have recorded 3 albums: 'Darksparklecorner', 'A Day in July' and 'Deep Breathe Fake Air' and it isn't hard to see why the late legend John Peel, honoured marlowe with their own Radio 1 'Peel Session', with XFM and Radio 6 following suit, whilst MTV2 had most of their singles on heavy rotation.
Marlowe already have two sucessful UK tours under their belts and successful stints at festivals - 'Popkomm' in Berlin and 'South by Southwest' (Austin, Texas), alongside acts including The Kaiser Cheifs, Bloc Party and Graham Coxon. Come join the marlowe massive....
