MARQ J BIOGRAPHY / THE MAN / THE ARTIST

This talented artist is known throughout the southern region for his radiant energy while awing his audiences on stage. From singing, dancing, writing and producing, Marq J’s timeless effort towards perfection continues to greaten. The 6-ft. southern gent hails from Hattiesburg, MS, by way of New Orleans, LA.

Marq-J developed an inspiration for good music at a young age when his parents operated a popular nightclub in Hattiesburg, MS. His siblings shared positions at the establishment with the brother as the DJ, the sisters as waitress and dancing showgirl. It wasn’t long before the entertainment bug literally bit him.

Marq J began playing the piano, the violin and the trumpet in the school orchestra. As an adolescent, he began creating dance routines, writing and producing his own lyrics and beats. In the mid 90’s, he produced his first stage production and performed as the opening act for Kut Klose and Trisha Covington. Immediately following his performance WJMG 92.1 FM New Orleans, LA (Host of the event) received numerous calls requesting the unforgettable sultry voice of Marq J.

He relocated to Houston, Texas to become a host for the Music Business Mixers for Urban Beat Magazine. Through the conventions, Marq J was able to mix and mingle with some of the top music moguls in the industry, gathering all the dos and don’ts in his venture to stardom. In 1999, while under the management of The Kompari Entertainment Group, Marq J returned to the stage showcasing his impressive vocal style along with explosive choreography.

He captured the audience performing “You Don’t Have 2 Worry” at Cody’s in the Village ( Houston, TX) and won 1st place. He began displaying his energetic talent and skills among a variety of Houston popular “In-Crowd” venues. Every performance left the audience chanting and applauding for more. Where there was competition, Marq J walked away the winner of each entry. Marq Js’ showmanship and stage choreography has been compared to Justin Timberlake, J-Lo, Michael and Janet Jackson productions. Every dancer is in sync, while delivering savvy precision moves with their leader, Marq J.

He has appeared in Platinum Magazine, Urban Beat Magazine, various newsletters, and local magazines across the southeast and southwest region gaining notoriety and receiving majestic reviews.

THE MUSIC / THE SHOW

In this slammin’ well thought out project, Marq J, brings out the good, the bad and fun qualities of relationships in musical format. He also expresses his opinion of people putting their nose in grown-ups business in the song “Go 4 Yours”. The album title track “Diamond Destined”, Marq J explains how he’s 100% dedicated in reaching and maintaining his musical goals. “It’s like getting married for the 1st and only time. If you stick to it and make it work, you’re controlling your destiny”, he emphatically states.

Marq J wrote, arranged the vocals, produced, and Co-produced his debut album. He choreographs all the powerful routines. The album “Diamond Destined” can be compared to the shock value of Nora Jones of Rhythm & Blues. He depicts and delivers the ever so missing value of good forgotten Rhythm & Blues, with an exemplary show.
