I can't say that there is any particular musician that I have looked up to for musical inspiration, although I will say that the Beastie Boys License to ILL album definitely affected me when I first started beatboxing as a kid. It was the first tape I ever owned and I played it over and over. I used to imitate the horn tracks from that album and I think that was where my bass notes came from.
With that said, here is a list of some of the music I have really enjoyed over the years: Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Steely Dan, The Eagles, Rage Against the Machine, Led Zepplin, Dave Matthews, Cake, G n' R, Willie Nelson, James Brown, Parliament, Eric Clapton, Bassnectar, Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Seger, Tupac, Eminem, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aretha Franklin, Sublime, Blind Melon, Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Michael Franti, Natalie Merchant, Macy Gray...

I started beatboxing as a kid when I was eleven, but it wasn't until 2001 when I won an open mic competition that I started performing for audiences. Since then I have been working on how and in what way I want to apply beatboxing in live show. Over the years I have sit in with various emcees, bands, and djs, and have also been on t.v. a couple times, once on 30 Seconds to Fame and once on the evening news in Asheville, NC. I moved to Portland, OR in December of 2006 and have been having a wonderful time, its definitely the coolest place I have ever lived. My current enthusiasm is performing with my band the Wandering Minds. I moved to the West coast in the spring of '05 to pursue my music. Ironically enough, I discovered that my old band mates from Asheville had also moved here. We decided it must be fate so we got the band back together and now we are getting serious about gigging and trying to make something happen on a larger scale. We have a pretty unique sound. Its kinda hip hop meets Spanish guitar jam band. We are currently open to adding a vocalist, a bass player, and a percussionist (not a set drummer.) We have been experimenting with some folks but haven't found someone that quite fits these roles yet...

I wish I lived in the old west. Then my mustache would finally grow in. And if I lived in the old west I would say things like "Yank that smoke wagon and go to work" and "Pull leather boy" and maybe even "You called down the thunder now reap the whirlwind, reap it." But I don't live in the old west so my mustache looks like a seventh graders and all I ever say is things like "Can I get Cheese on that?" and "The price of Gas is ridiculous." I am telling you all of this because it your fault.
