MusicMy favourite form of music is "Classical." My second favourite forms of music are Indie Rock and Indie Hip Hop. My favorite producers are The Opus, Flying Lotus, EL-P, Mr. Len, DJ Shadow, RZA, Camutao, Rob Sonic, Madlib, Imogen Heap, Diamon D, Pete Rock, Blockhead, Hi-Tek, Bjork, Jazzy Jeff, and many others I can't think of at present. My favorite MCEE's are Jay-Z (a god of MCin' and business...how could anyone not love Jay?); Weezy; Nas(goddamn, I have no words for how dope he is!); Papoose; My friend, Vast Aire (that boy is so damn cold it's ridiculous!), Eminem, Andre 3000, Black Thought, Common, Talib Kweli, Bahamadia, Jeru the Damaja, Wu-Tang, Rakim, and KRS One...and also Biggie Smalls when referring to his FIRST ALBUM-"Ready to Die" was too ill!...and, again, there are many others here that I'm forgetting at present. My favorite vocalists are Adelaide Muir, IMOGEN HEAP, Alicia Keys, and Celine Dion. I'm a sucker for artistically brilliant women, and they are EXACTLY that! And here's just a short little list (I don't think this is even a one hundredth of all the music I enjoy, but if I was to name every band, group, or solo artist I love, then the list would NEVER END!): All old school hip hop; The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Buckley, Michael Jackson, Cold Play; EL-P, Cannibal Ox, Aesop Rock, Blockhead, Rob Sonic, Mr. Lif, and the rest of the Def Jux crew; Bjork, Tori Amos, ALL Classical Music, Alanis Morisette, Outkast, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Flock of Seagulls, UK POP/PUNK (1970's), Sufjan Stevens, Iron and Wine, Tilly and the Wall, Radiohead, Cardigans, Grandaddy, Cranberries, DJ Krush, DJ Shadow, Fionna Apple, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, L Boogie, John Legend, ANYTHING by IMOGEN HEAP (she is so BRILLIANT!) ...I listen to damn near anything, as there is beauty in it all! ...Holy crap, I almost forgot MUSE...that is one of the greatest and most brilliant bands, like, EVER!
MoviesThere is nothing quite so brilliant or hauntingly beautiful as "City of Lost Children." Other than that, which is my favourite, let's see here: I absolutely adore "Lost in Translation", anything by Peter Jackson; Delicatessen; Amelie; La Hain/Hate(English Translation); all Spike Lee's stuff; American Werewolf in London; Trading Places; Raise the Red Lantern; Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon; Hero; House of Flying Daggers; Kung Fu Hustle; God of Cookery; Shaolin Soccer; Superman 1,2/Richard Donner version; Love Actually; Do the Right Thing; Sex and Lucia; Run Lola Run; Othello/Kenneth Branagh, of course; Hamlet/Kenneth Branagh; Schindler's List; House of 1000 Corpses; Devil's Rejects; Underworld1&2 (I'm a sucker for vampires and werewolves); E.T; Shaun of the Dead; Great Expectations/Ethan Hawke; Gattica; Coming to America; Harry Potter; Garden State; Leon, the Professional/extended cut; Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction; Jackie Brown; Reservoir Dogs; Four Rooms; Ferris Bueller's Day Off; Punch Drunk Love; the Godfather; Donnie Darko; The Triplets of Bellville; King Kong, 1933 and 2005; Ninja Scroll; PRINCESS MONONOKE (that is one of the best damn things I have EVER seen!); Spirited Away; Vampire Hunter D; Legend; Brotherhood of the Wolf; Spiderman 1 and 2; Good Will Hunting; Clerks; Mallrats; Dogma; Chasing Amy; Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back; Angels in America; Sin City; V for Vendetta; a gazillion other movies I'm forgetting about right now' and, once again, CITY OF LOST CHILDREN! It is the GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE. . .if you HAVE NOT seen it, you must do so IMMEDIATELY!
Television"Six Feet Under" is probably the best damn thing I've ever seen on TV. "Deadwood" is a close second, and "Carnivale" is amazing as well. Oh my god, I almost forgot "HEROES!!!" That show has some of the best damn writing I've ever seen! "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." "Friday Night Lights." After that, it's the British sitcoms. . . . .I have never seen one I didn't like-literally!
BooksSome of these names, I mentioned earlier, but my favourite authors are Stephenie Meyer (I don't care what any fool says...I love the ENTIRE "TWILIGHT" series, including "BREAKING DAWN!", J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, Philip Pullman, John Irving, JD Salinger, Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, Mark Twain, Jane Austen, Cornelia Funke, Christopher Paolini, and a gazillion others I haven't discovered yet. Anything fantasy or horror...and some science fiction, you know, the type that's NOT TOO "sciency!" I care much more about a story involving HUMAN EMOTION...I don't give a rat's ass about technical/scientific details. Too much of that will kill a story for me faster than anything.
HeroesAs far as writing and reading goes, I have to say that two of the biggest heroes to ever come into my life are J.K. Rowling and Stephen King! Philip Pullman as well ("His Dark Materials"), but I can't seem to find a picture of him. Oh, and Stephenie Meyer, of course! I also admire couples who, somehow, in this day and age can still maintain a beautiful union (I myself have never known love, so with the times that we are living in and the bullshit I see lovers put each other through, my opinion on relationships is jaded......but there are those who beat the odds) : Others include: The magnificent genius, Bruce Lee Gottfried Helnwein; Lori Earley; and my good friend, the MAGNIFICENT, Naoto Hattori; Miles Teves, Sas and Colin Christian, Jordu Schell, Chet Zar, Stan Winston, and Steve Wang (gods of the craft of 'Monster Making!), Jay-Z, Sean 'Diddy' Combs; Oprah Winfrey, Aaron McGruder, El-P, Bruce Lee, Steven Spielberg, Mike Nicols, Bill Gates, Peter Jackson, Quentin Tarantino, Sidney Portier, Brian Froud, couples who stay true to their marriage vows; those who were born with terrible tempers but have enough self control to not be ruled by them (I'm still attempting to gain such mastery of myself); Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Christopher Reeve (the REAL "Superman" . . .I don't care how pretty or muscular this new kid is!), Batman, Spiderman (the GREATEST superhero EVER!), Yoda, Han Solo, Darth Vader, and Link from the Legend of Zelda games.

About me:
I absolutely ADORE artistically brilliant people. I surround myself with them, as it is with them that I feel most comfortable. I owe everything to artistic people, for without you, I would be nothing. Be you a writer, painter, actor, musician, architect, or whatever, I thrive upon your efforts. You are the air I breath. My solace. My stronghold. My safety net. My sanity. My reason for living. I love you all. Childish. Creative. High maintenance. Cocky. Sensitive. Insensitive. Insecure. Quick tempered. Loving. Loyal. Lustful. Attractive. Incredibly horny (especially after 3 decades of involuntary celibacy. I'm a workaholic, so this can't be helped!). Mischievous. Bombastic. Slightly domineering, yet fair and easy to please. Talented to no end. Know-it-all. Chaste. Afraid of germs. Healthy. Insightful. Rude, yet charming. Artist. Born on St. Patrick's Day, I am a PISCES with VIRGO rising, two signs of opposition, which complete me. By the Chinese Zodiac, I'm a DRAGON with ROOSTER rising. Most any Chinese astrologer would claim that this accounts for much of my offensive temper (see, it's not completely my fault! :o) I had my very first girlfriend in the latter half of 2005. She was a sweet and beautiful woman that I did very wrong, because of my quick temper, sensitivity, and 'work-a-holism.' I realize now that I need a lady who is just a little bit like me...I need that, for I'm an artist to the core of my soul, and in order for me to be happy, a woman has to understand and support that. I'm a good guy, but slightly self-centered, so relationships are difficult for me. I look at it like this, as far as we artists go, NOT ONE PERSON in the world believes you can succeed, except you. With odds like that against you, YOU BETTER BE SELFISH. I'm of the opinion that any unsupportive/misunderstanding loved one or anyone else who is NOT an artistic kindred spirit, should be kept at a distance, because they will do nothing but slow you down. This can be rough, because you will often hurt your family's feelings...but, nevertheless, it's necessary. The artistic workaholic in me frustrates people, but I can't help it. My need to indulge in that which is creative is as involuntary as my heartbeat. Acrylic, Ink/2009 “Caska, 'the Criminal Castoff of Chryssina Caverns,' Conjures a Cup of Comforting Cocoa” © Marque Terrynamahr Strickland/www.artistrick.com My goal in life, besides "World Domination" as an artist, is to help people realize it's okay to like, be friends with, or love someone despite the superficial differences one may have with that person, such as skin colour, religion, or social class. All forms of love are valid: straight, gay/lesbian/bi, transexual, transvestite, black/white/green/purple, ALL OF THEM...the only thing I have a problem with is bestiality. Forgive me, but that is one prejudice I'm not likely to get past...so all you sickos with the animal porn, please please please STOP IT! I have a serious weakness for Latin and East Indian women...also: Nikki B.; Alicia Keys; Keyshia Cole; Scarlett Johansson; Natalie Portman, Selma Hayek, Penelope Cruz; and Catherine Zeta Jones! I can eat Sushi till I pass out. YUMMY! I love talented people with huge egos, but who are tactful with them and know how to keep them in check. I hate talented people, who are lazy and don't exercise their craft, but then get mad when they see people, much less talented than themselves, attain success in life because of the fact that they work hard. Also, I love talented women...there is nothing more attractive than artistic ability. I love them all shapes, sizes, and races. To me, women are the closest thing in existence to 'GOD' (if you actually believe in such a thing), and I guess that is why I think so highly of them. Why should we not praise the very beings that bring human life into this world? Hey guys, link my site! Just copy the image below by "right clicking" and then choosing the "save" option. Thanks! Go check out my proper sites when you get a chance. Thanks! www.artistrick.com For those of you who keep asking about my 'involuntary celibacy' (take note of the word "INVOLUNTARY." It's not that I'm unable, it's just that, presently, there are more important things on my mind other than dating) and the type of women that I like, I'll give a little example. Now, as I mentioned above, I do NEED an ARTISTIC AND KINDRED SPIRIT in a woman if I'm to join my life with hers. But aside from that, forgive me if I seem incredibly superficial, but as far as the 'look' that I'm drawn to, this is the type of beauty that makes my heart skip a beat. What can I say? I LOVE fabulous, classy women! : (What do you want from me? I'm an artist and, therefore, INCAPABLE of not noticing beauty when I see it. So, naturally, I need it in my life.)
Who I'd like to meet:
These were posted, but now I feel like keeping them a secret. . . .just wait and see! "The possession or achievement of ANYTHING begins in the mind." -BRUCE LEE "In an artist's life, death is perhaps not the most difficult thing." -Vincent Van Gogh (and I hate this guy's work...but I can't deny the power and honesty of his words here.) "When you finally gather your sword, shield, and your courage to face the Dragon, you will find that he is nothing but a guinea pig." "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds." -- Albert Einstein "Finally, as the blazing sun shone down upon us, did we know that the true enemy was the voice of blind idolatry; and only then did we begin to think for ourselves." -I have no idea who wrote this, but it's powerful!

In some types of things, I'm a raging perfectionist. For instance, it rubs me the wrong way, so to speak, that what I wrote about what you wrote isn't all on your page. I can't stand incompleteness. :D

So...

Always trust Marque to post bulletins of real substance. You make MySpace more interesting. First of all, WHY do you have a friend who annoys you so much? :D He basically sounds like an idiot. But then again, you may be misrepresenting him, and I guess he has his qualities as well. I mean, you MUST have a reason for keeping him. And everybody has good and bad alike in them (though it's sometimes reeeeally hard to hold on to that conviction when it comes to certain persons). Anyway, I at least find it pretty cool that he reads so much, trying to learn. Or is it just to find confirmation of his views? In any case, he obviously hasn't learned - or learned the right things. Hehehe. Btw, why on Earth does it have to be SIMULTANEOUSLY? That makes no sense. 'Trying out' different persons makes sense, yes, but why at the same time??? Errr... Huh? Here's my take on it all: 1) As for the thing about who's the dominant person in a relationship, your friend may say something slightly different than what he means to say. I have no grounds for saying that, really; it's just a feeling I get. Maybe he means that the person who NEEDS the other person the least becomes the dominating one. If that's his point, I agree. I've been in that situation, and I'd say that it will always be like that, except in the relationships that aren't completely equal, which I think constitute a very small percentage. I believe there's almost always a difference in degree. The most dependent person will automatically be the weaker part and put up with more, trying his/her hardest to maintain the relationship. That's my experience. It doesn't have to be a bad thing if the dominant one doesn&#3

doesn't abuse his/her position. It may work fine for both, I believe - as long as the power imbalance isn't TOO bad, that is. Being the dominant one CAN lead to becoming decidedly bossy, or even abusive or tyrannical, but absolutely not necessarily so. None of my boyfriends have been the least bit mean to me or ignored my wishes, etc. Yeah, you guessed it: I'm never the dominant one. :D Btw, who says that a mean partner INTENDED to be mean? I think it can be both ways around - being mean can cause one to become dominant, but being dominant can cause one to become mean. Sometimes, a person becomes dominant against hes/her will. It's often a dynamic thing. The partner can have an underdog personality which forces the other one into the dominant role. That was definitely what happened with me and (at least) my most recent ex (who wasn't mean, just dominant in most aspects). He kept complaining about it, asking me to try to stand up to him more. I know it may sound absurd, but it's a fact. I could feel/see it myself. I just couldn't do it, and he was helpless too. Sad. Another thing: People who are mean in relationships are just mean. (Simplified, mind you, as people are complex, but still.) 2) Your paragraph about approaching each other with mutual respect and interest without all the gender-games was really good to read. To me, although you can't deny the existence of typical differences in male and female psychology, a person's core is what really counts, and everyone should be met on that level. I can fall in love with and be attracted to both sexes... because I look behind and respond to that core. I consider gender a continuum rather than an either/or (except when it comes to the anatomical side, oc. I myself have many masculine features. I once took a test designed to place people on that continuum, and I turned out to be pretty close to the middle, though still in the female half. No surprise there. And I meet many men with pr

Hey. Been writing the longest bulletin comment ever. There wasn't room for it, and when I wanted to continue in a second comment box, it said "Access denied". Stupid. Anyway, so the rest comes here:

*continued* ------
...stereotypes and prejudice and the way they come into play in so many contexts. My sister lets her little son paint his toenails, and I love that. You know?... To sum it up, I agree with you in this, and I commend your attitude.
3) Another thing I enjoyed reading was the paragraph about women's reactions to an entire history of suppression. Yes, it's natural. And yes, that doesn't mean that those reactions can't go too far, so to speak, and be unhealthy for the women themselves as well as unreasonable toward their surroundings. Hopefully, a balance will be acchieved before too long. The important thing is to respect and follow your own nature while considering other people's feelings and treating them with just as much respect. That's not always easy, but one must strive to do it. On a different note: You write "IF indeed women have lost their minds" - WTF??? You allow for the possibility of that being true??? If that's not generalizing, what is? Ha. You may not have thought about it, but while blaming your friend for generalizing, you yourself do exactly the same. You write about women as an entity most of the way through your text. Respectfully, perhaps, but then again not. Again, each person is one person. Only the biology of gender and the status that they've inarguably held throughout history as a 'group' is general. Women act and react as individuals - not all are hurt and angry - as a result of history or otherwise. SO, add a 'some' to the first line in this paragraph of mine: 'SOME women's reactions'. The reason why I didn't write 'some' is
Maja

Maja Hasanunkoolnaim

Nov 4 2009 12:48 PM

is that it was sort of a quote (of your words). That said, there IS oc a tendency. It IS a widespread phenomenon - resulting in a general movement (feminism) and a historical development. I grant you that.
4) I think your 'toilet paper' paragraph is really weird. Who says that, if there comes a time when there's no difference between female and male psychology, it will result in women losing men's respect??? Where did you get THAT idea??? Again, it's a person's core that warrants respect, not their gender (or place on the aforementioned continuum). Another thing: I don't believe that there will ever come such a time. I know I talk about the continuum, but still I believe that biology DOES govern much of a person's psychology. That doesn't mean that women simply have female psyches or men simply masculine, but there are overwhelming tendencies. Most people will be at the end of the spectre in SOME of their mental/emotional features. I think. And that fact is caused by biology, at least in part. I think. :) ... If it seems as if I'm contradicting myself, it's because I don't express myself precisely enough. My opinion is solid. Or maybe not. Hahahah. I feel convinced in these matters, but maybe I'm fooling myself.
5) It's funny to me that you say that women are SPECIAL. There are only two genders - they're special in relation to men. And men are special in relation to women. It's difficult to phrase this, but... 'special' is defined as an exception to a rule or the norm, isn't it? Then how can one half of the world's population be called 'special'? :)  Also, when it comes down to it, everybody is special in that everybody is unique. I know that sounds like the opposite of what I just wrote, but it isn't. Every single person is a minority, you know? One in about 7 billion. :) I know that your choice of the word 'special&
Maja

Maja Hasanunkoolnaim

Nov 4 2009 12:48 PM

is your way of expressing your respect, which is highly commendable, but think about it.
6) Nobody is more concerned about my sex life than I am. Is that because I have no foolish friends, I wonder? ;)
7) I would be perfectly happy to get to know you without all the games. ;)
8) Hey, is having sex with many different persons necessarily a bad thing? It isn't in my eyes. (Guess where I belong in the statistics, hehehe.) It's about the way you approach each 'partner', what your motivations are, how you treat the person, and how you treat yourself. Having lots of sex with different people does soooo not have to be about disrespecting yourself. It CAN be, but it certainly isn't always. "Give it up" - oh, honestly! So shame on you, Marque. Heeheehee. I basically disapprove of the term 'slut'. And, the classic question, why isn't there a similar word for men who act the same?
23748) The karma thing... Maybe the law of attraction - in the spiritual, 'cosmic' sense - is real. Or maybe it's more of a question of psychology. I believe that people tend to be attracted to people they somehow need in order to get what they need - whether in an unhealthy way or a healthy way. Sometimes it's about the subconscious knowing what the person needs to work on, and sometimes it's about fulfilling your 'bad' needs. I think. About your friend meeting awful women... He may suck at seeing the good in people, seeing only what he wants or somehow needs to see. He may be totally unreasonable - who says others don't consider those very women great people? It's been seen before - and then some! You only hear his version... Maybe he just hates them blindly for hurting or 'bothering' him - or simply for being different than him. Also, when you EXPECT someone or something to be terrible, you often make them so - call
