Hawaiian-born turned Northern California native, Marquesa Kilikina Versola (you can just call her Kes), is working on new music. She's known as the soulful front-woman for Funk Frequency and Loose Booty, the country co-crooner of Gallica Rose, first-call session vocalist and backup singer, sultry jazz lounger, voice teacher, and coffeeshop troubador. But it’s not her versatility, her commanding stage presence, or numerous accolades that make first time listeners raise their brows incredulously and ask, “Who Is this?” Her voice is unmistakable. With a haunting purity akin to Alison Krauss, the melismatic flexibility of Ella Fitzgerald, and a range of expression that draws few comparisons, perhaps Joni Mitchell, Kes only has to open her mouth to seduce an audience to pin-drop silence. Colorful finger-picked guitar chords and image-invoking poeticism are the canvas on which she paints melodic landscapes in self-penned songs such as Complication and Shadow Room. This Folk-meets-Funk songwriter is armed with searing vocals, a few albums worth of praiseworthy songs. Check back in soon to see more.
How's the fam holding up in the bay? When do we get to see Logan again (and you too)??? Come December I will be completely DONE with school and will need some Logan time ;)
I am going to be rollin' through Chico this weekend! I'm sure I'll see you at the Chingus show on Friday, and I will tell you about it again there, but I thought that I'd let you know that I just found out about an hour ago that I'm going to be doing an hour set at The Cafe Coda this SATURDAY the 27th. I am also on the road with Alyssa Jacey and she'll be doing about a 20 minute set as well. Long story short a show was going to be canceled due to someone passing away and they were going to close down for the eve, but then they knew that I was coming to town and asked me if I wanted to play a show so we put a bill together. I told them that I could get some bodies in the door to make it worth their while. It would be great to have you out!
hey there mama, miss lots. i just wanted to send you some chico love. hope all is healthy and well. i had fun singing with you when you were in chico last. we really didn't get to chit chat that much but it was so nice to see you and rock on stage with ya. love you~
Thank ME? Thank YOU! (OK, now I've got "Say You, Say Me" in my head. And that's leading to having "Say Say Say" in my head. ) So when do we cover "Say Say Say"? I get to be Paul!
Marquesa! Congrats again! :) I wish you, Josh and Logan the best of luck in the awesome city of SF! At least we have you guys for another month or so! I will be gone all summer, but you'll definitely have to come up and visit us at Desi's in the Fall! Okay?? Great! ;)
Oh man, you're moving? I'll be sure to email you the next time I'm in San Francisco at Biscuits and Blues! All my best and have a great time in the city by the bay ♥ ♥ ♥
Hi quesea! I love the new song! and I think it is broadcast quality (at least to me) you should try to get your songs placed in tv and films and stuff. That would be cool. Keep on doin' it because YOU GOT IT!!! As for me, just reading and learning more about songwriting and jamming with friends in the park. yeay! Love Dana
"Who will hold up the world, keep it spinnin' round if I should fall down?" Damn, that's a good song. I can't wait to hear it on an album someday soon!
