Artist's Statement (Jennie Tudor Gray)

My artwork and life is fueled by passion for books, art, and the creative process. As far back as I can remember I have been drawing, painting, and reading. My dream is to incorporate my passion for art into the community of Austin through Multi-Cultural Creative and Performing Arts Education. My goal is to make art more accessible to all ages of Austin. My academic studies have taken me through all different kinds of art studies including Art History, Concrete and Metal Sculpture, Theatre, Puppetry, Ceramics, and Printmaking. Collage and assemblage out of found paper and objects are my preferred methods of artwork since there is something magical to be found in the history, papers, and bindings of old books.

Lol... so, my husband says "hey you have to hear this version of Light My Fire by Jose Feliciano". So of course he doesn't understand why I crack up and say "lighmyfirelighmyfirelighmyfire!". I can't believe that stayed with me since college. Where's all the information that's left my brain, yet that has stayed with me. You've permanently marked me Marrit!!

Happy day after Mother's Day. Hope you had a good day. We went to Corpus for the weekend. I'd say it was relaxing, but with two kids, one which is under one and got sick, it was all BUT relaxing!

"Children need interesting mothers. And mothers need interesting lives. We need time to ourselves, moments of awareness, connections, meaningful work. We need cheap art, good sex, nights at the bowling alley and days at the beach. We need good coffee, hearty meals, lush gardens and time to relax and enjoy our lives without worrying to much about whether we are good enough mothers or skinny enough girlfriends or wives. We need to take care of ourselves so that we can mother our children soulfully and lead lives worth living."

- Ariel Gore

Happy Mother's Day to a very interesting mother. xoxo
