Perhaps the fastest rising prospect in the dark world of horrorcore music, Mars has been infecting the underground with his brew of West Coast wicked shit since the day his independent cult classic "Mars Attacks" hit the shelves. With the first run selling out in 24 short hours to eager fans, Mad Insanity Records celebration was cut short quickly by one of the biggest school shootings in American history. 14 year old Jeff Weise from Red Lake, MN shot and killed his family and drove to school wounding and murdering countless others before turning the gun on himself. After a shrine of printed lyrics and photographs were found in his binder along with his copy of "Mars Attacks" was found, the media blamed the violent music created by the Pittsburg, CA native Mars for drawing in the troubled child with his creepy voice and catchy offensive content. News spread widely around the country as another teen in Rowlett, TX was expelled from school for reciting Mars' lyrics in the classroom. Mars quickly re-released the CD as a wave of TV and radio broadcasts hit the nation pushing political icon Al Sharpton to condemn offensive and violent rap music, but ultimately help boost the sales of his album to twisted rap fans all over the country before pressure to distribution companies caused the project to be pulled from shelves.
In 2005 Miramax Films modeled their villain played by Ben Foster after Mars' image and lyrical content in their award nominated feature "Hostage" staring Bruce Willis. Foster plays the psychotic Mars, who instigates his associates into holding a family hostage in their own home. When Foster was asked about his character in the film he said " I based my character on a serial killer who saw his parents die and now has a fetish for little girls and watching people die." Mars loved the idea and started pursuing his own career in acting and appeared in commercials and other small parts before staying focused on his music.
With CD and merchandise sales going strong, Mars hit the road touring with some of the most notable acts in his genre including Esham, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, and the Insane Clown Posse, securing his name as one of the hottest horrorcore artists to emerge from the wicked underground. Psychopathic Records the label behind the success of the Insane Clown Posse took notice of the young artist and added Mars to their Hatchet House records compilation "Tunnel Runners" with the hit single "They Watchin Me" featuring Mike Marshall of the Timex Social Club (I Got 5 On It, Rumors) reaching the Billboard Magazine top 25 rap album charts. Mars went on to perform with the labels roster on the "Shock Therapy" tour and along side of the clowns on the "2008 Hallowicked" tour as well as playing numerous "Gathering Of The Juggalos" a festival like event that attracts tens of thousands of people every year, to come and witness some of the most notorious rap acts in the world. "At his young age Mars is already known as a legend in the wicked shit", says Violent J of the Insane Clown Posse while broadcasting on WFUCKOFF Radio's "The Witching Hour".
"I kind of grew up studying horrorcore. Who was who, who was doing what. What worked, what didn't. I felt that I needed to know my roots to be a better artist. It just so happens I was always defending our kind of music on the news and shit". says Mars who credits his knowledge of the genre for his marketing success. It wasn't long before Mars was hosting his own show on WFUCKOFF as an authority and connoisseur of his controversial genre with "Suicide Hotline: The History of The Wicked Shit" boasting an impressive all star list of guests schooling its horrorcore and juggalo audience with facts, dates and events within its own culture.
After collaborating with the likes of artists X-Raided, Mac Dre, Spice 1, Celly Cell, Keak Da Sneak and appearing on hundreds of underground tapes and CD's Mars followed up to his EP with the highly received "School House Glock: Extra Credit" album as response to the controversy that helped push him into mainstream media outlets including author and law enforcement trainer Phil Chalmers' new book "Inside The Mind Of A Teen Killer" . "I just got tired of being on the news trying to change peoples minds. After a while I wanted to be like fuck you. I'm just talkin' shit and I hope they get mad. Fuck 'em." The album became and instant classic to horrorcore fans everywhere with its funky almost happy West Coast beats and dark lyrics touching taboo subjects like rape, murder, drugs, abortion and suicide. Fangoria Magazine writes, "These days finding a commercially marketable horrorcore rap album is as likely as finding true love with Elizabeth Banks. It’s just not going to happen. So try and imagine the shock that I endured when we did in fact find one." It seemed that Mars found the perfect formula.""Tracks like “Shootin Spree”, “Are You Scared?” and “Girlfriend” all boast catchy enough hooks to hold weight amongst some of the mainstreams best." The leading horrorcore publication gave "School House Glock" one of its highest ratings further increasing the demand from the overly obsessive fan base Mars has accumulated world wide. Whats next for the young horrrorcore legend? Only time will tell. The bright future of a dark human being is still being etched in the history of the wicked shit. Stay tuned.
