And not so long ago...

The Dirty Canon Cover

The Figs' first album is available in all good UK shops and a couple of crap ones, distributed in the UK & Europe and Online by Cargo Records:

Marseille Figs: The Dirty Canon
The Dirty Canon Songlist

You can get it online from
Rough Trade or Cargo, or Stateside from Tower Records. You can download it from iTunes, or preview it at LastFM.

The Dirty Canon features romping stompers, barroom ballads, honking skronking songs, sweet old saws, dirges, hymns and derelict love songs. It's got thunder, lightning, monkey grunts and rock & roll romance galore. Latest album reviews are here, here and here.

Marseille Figs is a three piece Big Band. They sound like a runaway train, a barrel of horny monkeys, a funeral band, tumbling tumbleweeds and sweet birdsong. To hell with MySpace, go see www.marseillefigs.org.

Bookings are handled at bookings@marseillefigs.org. For other things, contact info@marseillefigs.org.

Thanks for a great gig on tuesday night and good too to catch up with some old friends.  Jumbo is set to become a staple of the Wild Hare DJ set and I have just told Paul-Ronney of the Gypsy Hotel that he should definitely book you.  I predict that you will finally grace the Wild Hare Club in 2010.  Cheers Richard

Great review in BoingBoing today!  Listening to your voice always makes me happy and miss you too.  I told Liliana that I wished I could see you more often and she said "Mole is busy with his career of being a famous person."

..

Hallo Mole!

Viel Spass.

Been listening to "The Dirty Cannon" a lot lately, and I dig the hell out of it. "Honey How You Like Your Eggs" and "Losers Delight" are particularly memorable.
Really really great lyrics on the former (eg: "Don Juan was a famous Casanova, Casanova was a famous Romeo" that's great stuff)

It's not bullshit, everyone in Philly IS an obnoxious drunken asshole. :)

You guys were really good last night with The Pogues in Philly, thanks for the good set. What people from Philly say about themselves being "a tough audience" is bullshit, they'remostly just obnoxious drunks. I hope the rest of the tour is better.

Also, your album is very enjoyable.

You guys were good last night. It's a rough act opening for the Pogues, but I think you guys pulled it off well. (The opener last year was booed mercilessly from the second they set foot on stage. Of course, they weren't any good, and we boo everything here in Philly.. Including Santa.) Hope the rest of the shows go well for you.

A belated thank you for such a great gig to launch the album. Some time in the not-too-distant future we'll get you to the wilds for a WHC bash...
