Influences
Sounds LikeThat scene from Love Jones when Lorenz Tate is saying that poem about Nia Long. It sounds like that scene from Mo Betta Blues when Denzel Washington is saying that poem about L-O-V-E. It sounds a little bit like Jill Scott without the singing. It sounds like a very good poetry cd.

About Marsha @ They Say every Thursday
Marsha Carter is a modern day poet. She was born and raised in Detroit and uses her personal life experiences in her performances. Her writing style is simple. She transforms life’s lessons into poetry. Her goal is to bring people closer to God by including messages about the Bible in her work. In December 2006, she independently produced her first CD “Broccoli Don’t taste Like Peach Cobbler.” The CD combines Marsha’s powerful delivery of poetry over jazz and soulful beats. People describe her CD as “down to earth,” “funny,” “professional” and “very strong opinions.” In 2007, she was selected from a pool of 500 to perform as a finalist at the Music Hall for Detroit’s “Bring-It Talent Competition.” After competing against over 40 poets, she was one of four picked to represent Detroit at the 2007 National Poetry Slam in Austin, TX. The Detroit team placed in the top 25. Well known radio host of Mix 92.3 and motivational speaker Frankie Darcell’s asked Marsha to perform on her debut CD “Nourishment for the Soul.” She has opened, hosted or shared the stage with the following performers: KRS-ONE, Amel Larriuex, Anthony David, Jaquar Wright, Sparrow, Doc Holiday, Cel, Katrina Storm, Monica Blaire and L’Renee. She also worked with Mosaic Thump at the 2007 SoulTrack Independent Music Awards at Cobo Hall, as well as the Urban Organic music festival. She was the keynote speaker for the graduating class of Lessinger Middle School, as well as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s (Delta Chi Chapter) annual scholarship ball in Kalamazoo, MI. In 2006, she served as resident host of “Unrestricted Soul” open mic at Motown Soul Food Café, formerly Grand City Grille. In 2005, she hosted a successful jazz & poetry night at Magnolia Key Club. She won first place in 2004 at Mix 92.3 “Talent under the Stars” contest and opened for a tribute concert to Marvin Gaye. In addition, Marsha has written customized poems for numerous weddings, anniversaries, retirement parties, churches and non-profit groups. In 1994, she received her B.A. in Communications from Western Michigan University and in 1996 was awarded her M.A. in Public Affairs Reporting from the University of Illinois at Springfield. Currently, she works for a public relations firm in Detroit. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the National Public Relations Society of America. When she is not managing her poetry career, she is simply called “Ma-Ma” by her busy toddler Malone.

L*O*V*E* Y*O*U*!
Today is love u day. Send to everyone you love. Whether it s real love or friend love. Ur spoiled if you get 4 back.

Did Anyone Ever Tell You
How Important You Make Others Feel
Somebody out here is Smiling
About Love that is so Real

Did Anyone Ever Tell You that
Many Times When They were Sad
Your E-mail (and chats) made Them Smile a bit
In Fact It made Them Glad

For the Time You Spend Sending Things
And Sharing whatever You Find
There are No Words to Thank You
But Somebody, Thinks You re Fine

Did Anyone Ever Tell You
Just How Much They Love You
Well, My Dearest Friend
Today I am Telling You

I HOPE I GET THIS BACK
I believe that without a special
friend you are missing out on a lot.

"...Just a few more moments...
The cab runs late in the
morning so only for now can I
pretend me holding you will
happen again.

But when I leave,
I'm gone.

Still, don't breathe so heavily.

Can't we just exhale slowly
off sync like you sleep when
we sleep next to each other?
I didn't sleep last night…
trying to savor time, though
it still fast forwards to before
I walked out the door but just
after we made love like it's going
out of style.

In between hugs and kisses we
lived a dream so vivid, it's memory
makes us naturally smile, but
just for now…
Time has no authority concerning
these few more moments approaching,
quickly closing,
bringing us to an end.

The happiest moment was an end...
of what I remember.

The wind blowing thru the crack
in the taxi window entangled with
whispers saying 'I'll never forget you,
you'll always be my friend.'..."

"...In the world, I study people. They come from different parts of all over but we share similar words when expressing our hurt. A hurt derived from regional cultures that span greatly between archaic and innovative. The hurt was never shown differently on our faces either, so it led me to believe we mighta been connected until the trips back to Woodward showed my periods to be a little mistaken at best. I take for granted my experience from traveling sometimes and, when I do, I unknowingly give my progress to some people who walk the same streets as I did…but not as focused on the reasons I found in between each of the broken lines as much as they were on the crack in the streets. And even though I knew that, I still didn't know them, which really meant I didn't know me. Slowly from Holy to lonely as even my ignorance to happenings around me took away running but they always stayed in front of me, so I finally started looking both ways before crossing these streets. It doesn’t keep the cars from aiming for me, though. While they would gain speed during my many flees for safety, they would explain, it’s my free lesson which often suggests through their whizzing curses that I couldn’t know any better because I just wanna get from one side of hell to the other. But still, thank you for helping me get there a bit faster…one way or the other..."

"…It was a smile that felt like a kiss on a day that wasn't supposed to exist…in these days. Those eyes were only meant to close to open and surprise me with its look every time you blinked. I saw what modesty could bring when understanding took hold of misleading views. Mistaken I'm sure since I don't know you except I see you for seconds at a time from far away glances turned messages into smoke signals specific to the moments given clues because we speak when we don't realize it and just blunder when we really try to. I turn my head and wonder what went wrong however before I have a chance to discover what I need to do, there you are again with that same look. Different expression. Similar impression. Same situation. Then I smile in return as not to disturb the already determined mood but everyday I see a routine develop into a task that started as a dream when I thought I could have something great without working hard at it so it became the addict to my drug creating a systematic theme which was me not having fun without the scent of your presence in the room. Whenever, wherever. When other people bored me, I wanted to look in your eyes because those momentary glares made love and glory feel effortless. Unfortunately, our story will never be important.
No more than a cup of coffee on a cold morning begging for nothing less than your warmest thought to replace the chill that falls when we give up the chase and accept the reality…that it's just a stare…"

If you are a mother or not but you are a daughter or son.
In the memories of mothers who are only in spirit,
I want to thank your mother for bringing such a lifting spirit into this world.

One this special day
We honor all mothers
For
Their sacrifices and devotions.
It’s a brave accomplishment for mother to bring life into this world.
She will have be to very skilled in patience, nurturing, to be able to multi task and be clairvoyant.
Her children unknowingly will dependent on her love for the rest of their lives,
For a mother’s loving is never ending;
So to all you special women
I wish you a very blessed and wonderful
Mothers’ Day.

Take care of you
Peace and love Ja’Dee Murphy
