From the beginning, music has been both an inspiration and salvation for Marshall Dane. Born in St. Catharine’s, Ontario, he was raised the son of a preacher man and a god-fearing woman. Fueled by a solid foundation of Sunday family jamborees and the musical influence of Cat Stevens and Kenny Rogers, Marshall went out at age 15 and solicited his first resident house gig. It was his own soulful blend of rootsy rock music that won over the crowd.
A few years later, settling in Toronto, Marshall started making his mark as an accomplished singer-songwriter. Writing, recording and gigging full-time became a way of life. In 2003 Marshall released the first of two albums, the self-produced “35 Dollars & Cheesecake”, then in 2006 released “Weapons of the Future”, produced by Brian Allen (Former A&R Attic Records / Heart; Producer: Haywire; Lee Aaron).
As word caught on of this dynamic new vocalist, Marshall started earning radio play and commercial work and built ongoing demand for over 300 shows annually. In 2008, Marshall’s relentless drive won him the acclaimed “Best Live Electric Band” at the Toronto Independent Music Awards.
Currently working on his highly anticipated third album, Marshall has been co-writing with Nashville’s Music Row songwriters like Jason Matthews, Willie Mack and Tim Taylor, as well as Canada’s own Paul Brandt. Marshall’s recent level of success has been a long time coming – but as he’ll tell you, the joy is always in the journey.
